history
diesel lives in a world where everyone chooses a power (a dyna)--the younger, the better, to deal with the pain that accompanies it. diesel, however, is from a family determined to test social experiments on the children; her experiment being, of course, not knowing that dynas even existed.
when she escapes her family, she happens upon a dyna choosing facility and chooses the line with no one in it--that being of smoke. of all the elements (fire, earth, water, smoke), smoke was determined to the least useful at too high of a cost. becoming a smoke wizard meant being unmade, and having to deal with the ridicule that came with it; not worth it in many's eyes. still, diesel makes the best of it, and eventually took to a life of assassination--making sure that those with money didn't have to deal with people sharing the same name as them.
