Story:

Long ago, the very first gods decided to create humans in their image.

To look over their humans, they created statues that were programmed to understand how humans operate. In opposition to this was Eros, the god of passion who loved the humans, always dutifully watching over them. He claimed a statue could never possibly understand human beings and look over them as properly as the gods had, but his friends dismissed him.

Sadly he was proven correct as the statues grew colder and colder. They turned against their immortal creators, chaining them to mountains in the heavens or throwing them down into the underworld. The last god standing, Eros fought against the statue Aphrodite, but eventually lost. Since he could never be destroyed, his mind was erased and his soul was placed into one of Aphrodite’s own servant statues she had formed in the image of Eros himself- the Cupids.

Many Cupids stay up in the clouds, merely doing their job and reporting back to the gods. But one Cupid, Eros, was curious enough to talk with humans and grow fond of them. She helped mothers tend to their babies, helped young men fall in love with each other, helped elderly men buy flowers for their wives, helped children care for kittens on the side of the road. Wherever she went, she helped love flourish.

One day, Eros felt a chill. She rushed down to Earth and soon stumbled upon what was called a “battlefield”, a horrific display of human beings tearing one another apart. Her fellow Cupids, brilliant in their golden armor, wordlessly struck humans down with their arrows. Eros ran to them, pleading as tears streamed down her face, but to no avail. She fled to her superiors in the clouds instead, begging them on her hands and knees:

“The humans are hurting each other! There is no love in sight. Please, oh mighty rulers, help me stop this madness!”

But her boss merely smiled down at her:

“Oh Eros, you need not concern yourself with their well-being. They do not have the long lives we have, so they might as well serve their purpose and entertain us.”

“But they are hurting one another-”

“And they enjoy it! Our data shows humans harbor hatred. A Cupid’s job is to maintain this entropy, not just to love them. Do you truly think a god could merely love humans? If you truly love everything, won’t you love us and help us too?”

But for many years, Eros refused to don the armor that her fellow Cupids wore during the bloodshed. She much preferred the human disguise she took on Earth. It was gentle and kind and the humans were not afraid of her. Even if they could not live very long, she wanted to make their lives worth living, and in return the humans made Eros happy with their gratitude.

One such human, the entomologist Psyche, made Eros feel a happiness she’d never felt before. Eros would happily change her form to that of a man in public, as all gods could do, but in private Psyche loved her even in her truest form. Eros took up painting and Psyche took up being her muse. Eros had always loved humans, but never loved a human as much as her Psyche.

However, as Cupids know, nothing good can last forever. The gods were amused by Eros and her love for the human. Eros was a grown woman now, and yet she had still not participated in duties for her other boss, the god of war. What could they make a stubborn immortal do? Not much, it would seem, but they could easily sway something else.

Eros cried, and cried, and cried. Humans were hateful. Humans were cruel. Humans did not love each other. As she donned her golden armor and her skin faded to statuesque gray, she made sure each and every human who took away her Psyche would know they did not deserve to live at all.

A bitter, sad, and lonely Cupid stares at a painting by an unknown artist in a museum as she blames both gods and humans for love and for hatred. For war, but also for beauty. She shifts her jacket and walks out into the cool evening air.

“I did love that rococo period.”

Notes:

★ Rose is Eros himself. The original gods were genderless and would use whatever they felt like using in the moment. He mostly used a masculine form back then, but he would look like the current Rose sometimes. The original gods were largely erased from history, so Rose doesn’t even know who Eros is.

★ She chose the name Rose Coco because it sounds like rococo, the period she met Psyche in. Eros is also an anagram of Rose.

★ Her lore is based very loosely on the conflicting lore of Eros- tied together with a bow! Some sources say he was a primordial (original) god, others say he was the son/servant of Aphrodite, others say he was the son of Aphrodite (love) and Ares (war), others say he’s actually entropy instead of just love. In the version where he’s a primordial god, he was seen as the most sensible one. In the one where he’s Aphrodite’s son, he fell in love with Psyche.

★ The primordial gods and the titans were combined into one thing for this retelling. Also, the marble Olympians represent AI because they can’t properly replicate humans lol. Nyx and Chaos are currently trying to reach Rose but cell service is blocked in the underworld.

★ Eros is currently trapped in one of the marble statues his friends made, but he doesn’t know that. Rose just thinks her disguise is like any other Cupid’s “human disguise” for Earth and the real her is the statue form.

Rose is my sona/vtuber!

Height: 170cm (with heels, 164cm without heels)

Pronouns: she/her

Physical age: somewhere in her 20s

Likes: the rococo period, flowers, gold jewelry, gaming, drawing, reading, cooking, and playing Hades ;)

Personality: She's a motherly, calm, easygoing sort of person. Likes to tease others. Her eyes are meant to always have a sort of sultry look. Generally understands pop culture but also refers to things the elderly like as "things kids enjoy". She often talks about historical events like she was there.

Cupid form: Rose's “true form” (right now). She is made of cold marble and does not smile nor have much fluid movement.

Human disguise: How Rose looks most of the time. She always has her light pink hair, but she can be drawn in pretty much any way possible. Feel free to change her hairstyle and clothes to whatever you'd like, but she prefers white, gold, and lavender. She thinks it’s just the disguise all Cupids use, but it’s what Eros truly looked like.

Gender/sexuality: Since she's based on a god, her gender can easily be changed and she thinks little of it- feel free to draw her as an ikemen too. She likes having her chest exposed in both forms. Rose is bi and flirtatious.

Mascot: The cherubs are little hardworking cloud creatures that worked for the gods but were sent to the Holy Garbage Disposal after advanced technology rendered them obsolete. Rose was upset by this and saved them. They're big fans of her and live in a condo she rents for them. When they talk it sounds like a squeaky toy, but they can say "Miss Rose!" and "Mama!" Rose doesn’t know that they were her original companions back when she was a primordial god.
