- That said, you are free to interpret his design differently. He is the protagonist of my novel, novel characters aren't meant to have solid designs because that's not how imagination works.

Not born, but made, Damian was created like thousands of others in an artificial womb where his human genetics were tampered with and his form was altered into being what it is now. He is a manticore, a human edited with cat-like traits in order to function in zero-gravity environments.

He was raised by a single father, one of the scientists who oversaw his creation. In the modern day, at the main point of his story that I am currently focusing on, he is an HVAC technician on an alien planet that is actively being researched. RC1BP2GL3 is a frigid planet that holds much danger and no one on it has a way of contacting the rest of known space. Damian is a private and closed-off person, his autism alienating him from those around him. He speaks quite blunt and monotone, and can't read facial expressions in any species.

He tries to keep people at a distance but he grows fond of people much faster than he lets on. 

Over the course of the story he... goes through it. But he also learns to let people in, to trust, and to accept kindness from others.
