He abhors the rich, those who stamp down on the ones who can only survive barely scraping by. It's not as if he needs profit from his apocerathy to support himself, his other jobs take care of that nicely, and he prefers to be able to freely give out treatment to those in neeed.

There will come a time when his people will finally be treated without prejudice. Until then, well, it wouldn't hurt to cull some of the filthy aristocrats, right?
