ABOUT ME

The LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU virus was a nasty computer bug that spread around Microsoft machines. On Windows computers, the "vbs" extension would be hidden and thus the file would appear like a normal txt file until opened. From there, ILOVEYOU corrupted the victim's machine before sending itself out to others on their address book.

Created in 2000, the ILOVEYOU virus was a prolific computer worm that at the time was the fastest spreading virus around. Due to a bug in Windows that would both hide file extensions and allow code to be opened via email attachments, the worm was able to affect over ten million machines.

Despite the worm now being extinct, its impact caused the creation of new laws against the creation of computer viruses. The creator wrote the code on their own as a means of attempting to steal passwords for internet access, and since being ousted as the bug's creator has stated their motivation had been to procure internet access without paying for it. The creator never wanted public attention for their work and has since remained out of the spotlight.
