Personality

Avery is very introverted and scared of meeting new people, so she always likes to have a buddy with her in any kind of social situation. She is a very talkative person despite this, so once she gets comfortable with someone she could talk for hours. She cherishes those close to her, frequently telling them she loves them and always willing to lend an ear. Though inwardly she can be selfish at times, sometimes only interacting with people to gain something and not going out of her way for strangers. She values her wellbeing and if a stranger is affecting that she won't feel bad about prioritizing herself. Avery is also quite sarcastic, which can be taken the wrong way, but she never means harm by it. Despite her flaws, the only thing she wants is for people to be happy and treated right.

2015 Design

Avery's first design from 2015 was my first "persona." I had inserts before but she was encompasing of me wholly rather than in parts. Despite that, her visual design was far from me and she was even originally older than me and had a different birthday. Back during this time I expressed myself through my OCs because I wasn't comfortable doing it in real life (through clothes, hair, aesthetics, etc). Her original design is definitely reminiscent of 2015, and it still has a special place in my heart ♡

Her hair is a waist length light brown that is braided and sitting over her right shoulder. This subtly referencing how I wore my hair in a side ponytail every day. She also has blue bangs that I had to include because I also often dyed my hair. She wears a morganite necklace, which represented my username "sakuraberyl" on a couple different platforms. Her galaxy print tights are a not so subtle way to show my aesthetics at the time. I redid her ref in 2016 since I changed my art style but her design stayed the same.

2018 Design

Into 2018, my fashion sense drastically changed and Avery became a different type of character for me. Before she was piggybacking off of the persona trend on dA and was very much like an anime OC to me, but through 2017-2018, she shifted as more of an insert to real life situations, like drawing her and my best friend's persona together and (ashamedly) shipping her with real people. So her new design reflected this, and became more of a regular every day outfit.

I drew Avery a lot on homework and in my sketchbooks, and occasionally I would give her this straight loose hair instead of her braid, and over time I really came to love it. So her new design gave her this. I was still sentimental with her old design, so the new silhouette reflected it, keeping the oversized sweater tucked into some kind of short bottoms and tights underneath. After making this design I realized I had this entire outfit in my own wardrobe. She went through a very slight alteration later the same year, since my own style was still changing. Around that time I cut my hair short for the first time in my life, so I gave Avery an alternate shorter hairstyle to reflect that. I also gave her an alternate brown eye design, as well as tiny oni-style horns. Her design has always been very flexible, so drawing her with any of these features was accurate in my eyes.

2019 Design

2019, I started art school and was finally trying to develop my art as a brand, So I redesigned Avery again to go with that. She turned into a personification of my art and art accounts as a whole, and kind of became like a mascot for it. I barely draw her anymore, but she still is a character that I love and use for comfort when I'm in an art rut.

My style and aesthetics have changed again at this point, if only slightly, so I changed her to reflect this. I intentionally gave her an outfit that I do have in real life because I wanted to really show my own tastes in her. She finally lost her morganite necklace, showing how I've abandoned the handle sakuraberyl from mostly everything, but also showing that I rarely wear jewlery in real life like I used to.

2021 Design

Currently I don't have a proper reference for this design, it was something I made up on the fly because I wanted another outfit for Avery that was more fantasy-like. I gave her an aesthetic of clothes that I adore but probably wouldn't wear in real life, while also keeping some elements of me in there, like the ribbed knit turtleneck and the black thigh highs.
