PERSONALITY

Gentle and kind, maybe aloof, are what normal people would believe this soft-looking individual to be. However, his initial words and encounter shatter such presumptions; rather, he is incredibly loudspoken, bitter, and irritable. He is also straightforward and unafraid of anything, a quality of his that never fails to surprise others. He lectures people, especially those of the younger generation, over the smallest, most trivial things, such as disorderliness, litter, fashion styles, sleeping in public areas, dog earring books, shoe scuffing, and millions of other things that bother him.

For all his nitpicking, he is rather a realistic thinker and is not one to dream of vague goals. He always plans to the smallest details, crossing all T’s and dotting all I’s. However, he is aware that he hardly puts his ideas and words into action, and always loathes himself for it. While he comes off as angry most of the time, he does have a mellow side of him, as difficult as it is to believe. He is often told he is too honest, or meddlesome, but he never frets. He is confident in his individualistic identity, though easily disliked for his strong will.

BACK STORY

In his primary school to his high school years, Ashiya was mostly alone, isolated by his bookworm habits and inability to relate to anyone—or at least, his lack of desire to relate to other people. His parents, consistently busy in their lives as working researchers in the field of science, rarely came home but for a few times a month. He never got to see them except on chance encounters. Having grown up reading books on traditional family values, learning about the love that fictional and real life characters harbor for their close relatives, Ashiya was bitter to be part of a household that held no such values: that he had a roof over his head but not a home. As one of a purely Japanese culture, the Kazunari bloodline failed at it. They always had in the past, and they did in his childhood. He was forgotten, so he shunned others.

The lonely boy may have been neglected and subdued, but having had his head wrapped around warm cultures within ink on pages, yet never being able to touch it himself, he was determined to change all of it—the Kazunari bloodline, his distant relatives, his cousins, his parents. He knew he was broken in the sense that he lacked warmth, so he decided he wouldn't allow anyone else to be broken. The fact that other people didn't like his way of speaking, or him, didn't matter at all. He would let himself be shunned if it meant he could get his views across.

To him, words were meant to be expressed, not imprisoned by sympathy and artificiality. His unwillingness to express himself to his parents only reinforced his desire to encourage other people to express themselves.
