Athelle Mahariel

About the Character

Athelle was the first ever D&D character I designed and second overall to be played in a full campaign. She started at level 3 on 7/28/19 as a late addition to a campaign called Girls Night Out. The party itself is named Maiden Voyage.

Athelle's disposition is more often than not playful and a bit mischevious, often lying about inconsequential things for her own amusement. She may initially come off as mysterious and secretive, but it doesn't take much for her to consider people friends. She always tries to see the best in people and stay positive during hard times, but this naiveté can also be one of her biggest flaws.

The name 'Athelle' has no inherit meaning, it came from a random name generator. 'Mahariel' comes from the Dalish Elf origin from the game Dragon Age: Origins.

Her flower is the lily of the valley, meaning "return to happiness".

Backstory

Athelle was born to a high elf mother and a human father in her mother's home city of Larethia. In the world of Stalacia, Larethia is inhabited solely by high elves, those who are anything else (even wood elves) would be risking death should they try to enter the great city. Despite being closed off to the rest of the world, it's residents are still allowed to enter and leave as they please, and so her parents met.

The first half of Athelle's life was spent majorly in Larethia, where she lived a sheltered life confined to the inside of her mother's house. Her existence was kept a secret to all Larethians with the exception of one: Laeticia. Laeticia was Athelle's tutor and would often help care for the young half-elf during her mother's mysterious absences. Athelle learned a great many subjects through her tutor, but the most impactful was the study of the arcane.

Growing up in a house where she felt she didn't get enough attention, Athelle was naturally very rambunctious and would often use her newfound magical skills in ways that would assuredly land her in time-out. Many squabbles were had between her and Laeticia, but even so Athelle considered the wizard a part of her small family, and would be sadden by their separation that would eventually come.

Art

Party Member

"Chartreuse is the youngest of our party, a bronze dragonborn, though something's been up with her scales ever since the hag incident.

It's crazy to think about all her accomplishments in comparison to her age. She's already explored much of the southern continent, is quite the renowned violinist, and has even been knighted by Empress Tyrande of the Waukite Empire. It makes sense that a reputation like that would go to her head.

She's haughty and over-confident, she'll do almost anything for attention, and she has a gambling addiction. With all that being said, I do genuinely believe she's a good kid. Art's always out there supporting us in fights and putting herself in danger. Adventuring life isn't easy for adults, I can't imagine what it's like for someone so young still.

I'm not really sure what made her leave home, I don't think any of us know her full past. Now that I think about it, she may be the party member we know the least about.

Art was very mistrustful of me in the beginning, but I think we've come a long way since, bonding over playing pranks on Thordo, getting caught in crazy situations together, having estranged relationships with our mothers, and journaling.

I hope she can find that happy ending that we talked about."

Bo

Party Member

"Bo is a human, most likely around our age but she's not really sure.

There's not a lot we know about Bo, but that's only because she doesn't know much about herself to begin with. She was raised in the Feywild and had only recently been interacting with others when we met her. At first, she was very reserved, and a little awkward even, but she's been able to slowly come out of her shell through our travels together.

Bo was a three-for-one deal, when she joined us so did her animal companion Ram and Peep, a strange beast with one body, two heads, and two personalities. Their unique appearance and large size have made travel interesting, but they've also proved themselves useful in combat.

Seeing as how we have similar skill sets and we often room together at inns, it's no surprise Bo and I became fast friends. She'll help me with scouting missions, I'll help her learn how to read and write Common, and we'll both braid each other's hair.

Maybe one day we can all go to the Feywild together and Bo can be our tour guide."

Clem

Party Member (Former)

"A tall human woman, only a few years older than me. She and Art are quite the tag team when it comes to making bad decisions.

Clementine Winterstride is probably the strongest person I know, her ability to punch things to death is pretty incredible, but underneath all that muscle is a big soft teddy bear. Once she's decided she likes you she will quite literally lay down her life for you, and has actually done so multiple times already. But thankfully she's too stubborn to stay dead.

Clem's surprisingly romantic too, she somehow managed to charm the former-general-now-empress Tyrande into being her girlfriend. Maybe it's their shared sense of honor and moral integrity, or maybe it's the fact that they're both awkward big strong girls. Either way, they're pretty cute together."

-From the pages of Athelle's diary, next to it is a pressed gladiolus.

"Clem's been going through a lot lately, both physically and emotionally. She made the hard decision to stop adventuring with us and stay in Halivara. Adjusting to her absence will not be easy and though it breaks our hearts, we only want what's best for Clementine.

Whenever I get sad about it I just try to remember that she's in Tyrande's good hands now. Once we're back in town we'll all hang out again like old times."

-A note that was recently appended to the entry.

Hami

Party Member

"Hami is a cute little tiefling, her stature and personality often make me forget that she's actually the closest to my age in the group.

Don't be fooled by her appearance though, she's one of our fiercest and in battle you'll always find her right up in the enemies' faces. She wields a powerful sword that changes with her magic and isn't afraid to take a hit.

She can be quite amusing to watch outside of combat as well. Some days she's demure and innocent and running off stages because she can't handle the social pressure, other days she's chastising powerful world leaders and plotting the downfall of gods. Sometimes it's both on the same day.

So long as you stay on her good side, Hami's sweetness and charm will be sure to win your heart over. I guess it's no surprise that that kid from the College of Intellect is obsessed with her."

Thordo

Party Member

"Older half-orc, the only male in our party. When I first heard of him and how he left his son, Tondre, behind I didn’t think he would be someone I could get along with. However, when I finally met the man it didn’t take long for me to turn my opinion around.

I see so much of my dad in Thordo, maybe because they fight the same or maybe just because he’s a dad himself. Unlike my dad though, he doesn’t appreciate the pranks very much. I’ve only pissed him off once to my astonishment, which speaks lengths about his patience.

Fights aside, I empathize with him. We’re both half-breeds trying to find a place where we can belong and I’d like to think we’ve found it in the form of this party.

Though we may not always agree with his recklessness and financial decisions, I think that we would all fight for Thordo the same way he’s fought for us.

I’ll remember his sacrifice for as long as I live."
