Being an only child in a town with not many kids was isolating, especially to Beste who's parents didn't trust their neighbors, and thus never let her properly meet others. She grew up learning about people through literature, and thus developed an alien behaviour, not quite welcome in her environment. She would dismiss the isolation as her own choice, regarding her lack of education similarly. Her parents had moved to the town from a big city. They hadn't been familiar with how to lead a life in a smaller place like that, nor with how to raise a child at their young age. She was effectively silenced for the greater portion of her life, thus developing strange speaking patterns that she would, again, pick up from reading.
