Bag_Pok%C3%A9_Ball_Sprite.pngSWAMPERT (MEGA) Water Ground Lv. //

Jolly Nature

Swift Swim

Waterfall • Earthquake • Ice Punch • Superpower

Marino's very first partner Pokemon that grew up alongside him as a Mudkip. There's nothing in this world that could separate these two, they're a winning team, instinctively attuned to one another and always in sync. His Swampert, aside from having been by his side on every journey and through every battle, plays a vital role in Marino's work, whether that's being his Surf Pokemon of choice, carrying people or pulling whole boats back to shore or communicating with the Pokemon around to mediate, without his Swampert none of the many assists Marino performs around his region would be possible. A very friendly and calm fellow. Will always stand up for those in need. Carries a mean punch, but only ever uses its strength when truly necessary. Probably single-handedly the reason that the local Sharpedo population behaves around human and Pokemon alike.

Calm Nature

Regenerator

Scald • Haze • Recover • Baneful Bunker

Wandered into the shallow waters of the popular bathing beach as a Mareanie, despite the local Mareanie knowing not to get too close to where the humans are playing, and was promptly stepped on by a child. Luckily the effect of its poison wasn't too threatening, but the resulting pain and drama that a screaming, crying child at the beach kicked up led to all the visitors angrily cursing and scolding it. Worried that the upset crowd or parents would take it further than just berating the Pokemon, Marino diffused the situation, realizing how distressing the anger seemed to be for the Mareanie. Would offer it to join his team after comforting it for a while. Cares a lot about what people think of it. Never wants to cause harm intentionally unless instructed so by Marino. Really sweet.

Bag_Pok%C3%A9_Ball_Sprite.pngFLOATZEL Water Lv. //

Timid Nature

Swift Swim

Hydro Pump • Ice Beam • Focus Blast • Hidden Power Grass

Joined Marino's team as a Buizel when he was already working as a lifeguard around his home region. Desperately wanting to help out and be useful to Marino on his duties it would try and prove to him that it can handle what the likes of his Swampert would take care of on the job, though its small statue and juvenility repeatedly got in the way. Marino found tasks it could do until more grown up, but the self-inflicted feeling of inadequacy for not being able to aid the team on the front lines left its mark on it. Always saw Marino's Swampert as a rolemodel and hero, wishing to one day be like it. While it still looks up to his Swampert even now, as a Floatzel, and now much more helpful part of the team, it covered up those feelings of weakness by gaining a bit of a silly ego, always happy to bask in the attention from beachgoers, happy to show off. It likes to act like there is some sort of (very much one-sided) rivalry going on between it and Swampert, behavior that Swampert completely ignores, but deep down Floatzel still looks up to Swampert the same way it did before. Likes to act like a hotshot, but that's all nothing more than hot air. Very capable and hardworking though and 100% reliable. Would never let its own feelings get in the way of helping people and Pokemon.

Bag_Pok%C3%A9_Ball_Sprite.pngPYUKUMUKU Water Lv. //

Bold Nature

Innards Out

Toxic • Soak • Rest • Block

A rascal (read: little shit). Would be the first Pyukumuku back on the shore from where Marino had picked it up and chucked it back into the sea on his morning runs, patiently waiting for Marino to run his way back along the beach and find it again. At first Marino assumed it was a different Pyukumuku that had just made it to shore, but he quickly clued in that this was a very specific Pyukumuku that would constantly thwart his attempts to keep it in the ocean with quite the zealous attitude. He would simply chuck it back on his way home, but that little game of chucking and it returning like a boomerang in record time eventually lead to Marino amusedly admitting defeat and asking, if its so attached to him, won't it just join his team. Always escapes out of the open tanks Marino owns for his Pokemon at home, you blink once and the little scamp's already gone again. Marino figured, if it likes to get on his nerves so much, why not make that attitude useful in battle. Gets and absolute kick out of stalling battles.

Will be switched out for Gyarados upon rematch/competitive.

Bag_Pok%C3%A9_Ball_Sprite.pngPELIPPER Water Flying Lv. //

Bold Nature

Drizzle

Scald • U-Turn • Roost • Defog

Met Marino as a Wingull that would observe him going on his morning runs along the beach. Realizing that the same human was coming back every day it slowly became intrigued with the man, his running egging on the Wingull until it would start flying overhead alongside Marino. Being stalked by a Wingull on his morning run several days in a row without fail had Marino growing suspicious, acknowledging the bird with occasional glances until their game of Follow-Me escalated into the Wingull playfully racing Marino on his runs. A few friendly speed competitions later, Marino reached his halfway point of the run breathless, his winged rival suddenly perched on his shoulder. Has been part of Marino's team ever since. Is mainly responsible for scouting and communication over distances; as well as Pyukumuku-sitting. Sleeps in a nest atop Marino's roof, but can come and go through the open windows whenever it likes. Acts mature and collected, but still has a simmering cheeky streak.

3ani__170__xy.gif

Bag_Pok%C3%A9_Ball_Sprite.pngCHINCHOU Water Electric Lv. //

Bold Nature

Volt Absorb

Scald • Volt Switch • Hidden Power Ground • Thunder Wave

Marino's light in the darkness, quite literally. His Chinchou works as a source of light for his team, above and below water, aiding in diving or nightly missions out on the sea. On the much softer side compared to most other Pokemon on his team, but with more bravery in its little body than most full-grown Pokemon, even in the face of danger. Will help guide lost seafarers and Pokemon back to safety. Has made Marino's work so much easier since joining his team, even if it may not be aware of how much it contributes.

Will be switched out for Rotom-W upon rematch/competitive.

"Refreshing, isn't it?"

The local Water-type Gym Leader of a tropical region. He's the 8th and last Gym you face before moving on to the Elite Four. Simultaneously also lifeguard, surfing, diving and sailing instructor as well as marine life and Water-type Pokemon expert (read: nerd).

Widely known as a "child of the sea", Marino has been fascinated with Water-type Pokemon as long as he, and his parents, can remember. It feels like you see him more in the water than out of it. Loves all things aquatic and sea-related; he's a bottomless pit of knowledge.

Takes his duties in all his professions very seriously. It was him who very enthusiastically had the local lifeguard team start a professionally trained Pokemon lifeguard squad. His (Mega) Swampert and Floatzel have become the poster children for the team. He also works closely with the Pokemon Rangers at the marine life rescue center to protect endangered Pokemon around the seas and waters.

Gym

When he's not chucking Pyukumuku back into the ocean on his morning runs along the bathing beaches or managing fun and safety at them, you can find him in his Gym that is only accessible via Dive. A captivating glass structure at the bottom of the sea, it functions both as a Gym as well as natural aquarium for people to visit via the tunnel elevator at the other side of the Gym when Marino and his trainers aren't embroiled in Pokemon battles.

bit of a doormat/people pleaser

prone to overworking

Bright, fresh and cheery, Marino's rarely ever seen without a smile on his face. Though his energy is an easygoing one, always pleasant and fun, a pick-me-up on bad days for everyone around him.

He's quite popular everywhere he goes and makes friends fast, effortlessly getting along with people and tuning into their individual wants and needs to take care of them in the specific ways they need. Marino is very altruistically oriented, always happy and ready to help out wherever and however he can. Being there for people makes him happy and he is unquestionably reliable, responsible and loyal for it. A very kind, caring soul.

Though while he's easy to get along with and rarely ever the source of an argument, Marino is much like the sea, when it's not soft, calm, rolling waves, but wild, crashing surges; he can be quite turbulent and vehement when irritated, overwhelmingly so, a feeling like the current pulling you under. It's very uncommon for him to be angered to this extent, though.

There's also a distinct stubbornness to him, and the infinite bravery and grit he possesses very easily tip over into a daring kind of reflexively self-sacrificing nature that is much too willing and much too immediate to take risks. Marino is very sure in himself and his competence and skills, leading him to not hesitate at all to put himself in harms way if it means helping out another person or Pokemon; he will put his life on the line without a second thought. And while he does recognize his own limits, his urge to keep everyone around him safe overrides that knowledge more often than not.

He's reckless, yes, but not stupidly so. He's confident and composed in the face of danger for good reason, having travelled alone and experienced many situations, good and bad, and learned much along the way. He's quick-witted and dexterous and extremely adaptable, with a vast pool of knowledge and exprience acquired over the years he got around. Extremely knowledgable when it comes to all things aquatic and Water-type Pokemon; bordering on obsession. Strikes a good balance between book- and street-smart.

Takes all of his work very seriously, so much so that the pressure of all the responsibility on his shoulders can be quite overwhelming on occasion. Puts others first always.

history

Grew up already absolutely obsessed with Water-type Pokemon and everything related to the ocean and water in general. Left to travel and become a proficient Pokemon trainer in his early teens and returned to his home region in his late teens, never feeling truly at home anywhere but where he grew up. Became the Water-type Gym Leader a few years later as an obvious choice by the former Gym Leader for his skill as a trainer, knowledge and passion for Water-type Pokemon.

Élan • Gym Leaders

Childhood friends. Their friendship lasted even through Marino's travels and years of absence from their region, reconnecting effortlessly once Marino returned back home. Both so similar in what drives them and what they're passionate about, they always got along, making sure to take care of each other when they themselves would forget to.

The crash damaged both of them deeply, leaving Élan with a deep phobia of large bodies of water and memory loss, a memory loss that extends to Marino as well as it was him and his Swampert that came to rescue Élan and the other survivors from the crash that night. Hearing from the doctors that Élan not only doesn't remember the crash but also had quite a few past memories wiped that involve Marino himself wasn't easy, having to tip-toe around his friend and pretend to be a total stranger to him trying not to trigger any more trauma responses. Sacrificial as he is, Marino has since tried his absolute best to get along with Élan (again) who now really doesn't quite like him, his subconscious negative associations with Marino to the crash leaving the Fire-Type Gym Leader iffy and uncomfortable whenever Marino is around. The years since were hard and Marino's heart still aches for the friendship lost, but he never treats Élan any different for it, trying against all odds to, maybe, at the very least ease Élan's discomfort with him one day to have a chance at a new friendship together again. "I've got your back."
