Profile

Brief History

Born to an unusual coupling between an Eater and a Crafter, Becky grew up in a loving family home.  Her parents were a little overprotective, wanting the best for their little child, and often guided her interests – her father showing her the arts of the Crafters, of creating and shaping crystals and her mother showing her the more traditional arts of the Eaters, gardening, cooking and the family business of beekeeping.

Unfortunately, even the most stable of home environments could not protect Becky from her peers.  Children can sometimes pick on each other for the most ridiculous of reasons.  In Becky’s case, the reason for her bullying was her height.  She was a lot smaller and slighter than other starpuffs and her all-over-the-place mind made it difficult for her to socialise.  She spent most of her childhood indoors, poring over books or tinkering with the garden.

Eventually, Becky grew into a comely but slight teenager and in this time, she met a young lad who said sweet things to her, who gave her presents and affection.  Her parents, sensing something darker in the boy, disapproved of the match, but Becky, desperate for the attention of her peers and, not understanding the matters of the heart ignored her parents advice and ran off with him.  That very night, she gave him her flower.

The first few months with the boy were sweet.  Becky grew plants and tended bees, making potions with their wax and honey for sale.  The boy worked at the market, things were all right… until Becky found out that his job at the market was all a lie.  That night, she confronted him with the truth, and he, in response, blamed her for his loss.  It was the first of many betrayals.

Over the next two years, the boy chased away the few friends she had and made her look foolish and irrational in front of his.  Though he never laid a claw on her, he blamed her for all the difficulties in their pairing – the lack of children and money, her strange personality and unattractiveness… shredding away at her dignity and self-confidence until she was little more than his prisoner.

It was at her lowest point that Becky turned to Raziel, and in the depths of her despair, she remembered the strength of stone and earth that she had inside her.  She stood and packed her meagre belongings, turned her back on her cruel lover and left for her family home.  In his anger and shame, he tore up the flower she gave him rather than return it to her.  In her fear, she cut her long beautiful locks and left herself with a short bob, so that no man could ever pull her by her hair again.

Becky returned to her parents and they welcomed her home with open arms.  She spent a few more happy years with them and cared for them as they aged and passed on.

Now, she keeps to herself, making the same potions as her mother did, tinkering with strange inventions in the garden and holding the occasional beekeeping workshop at her place.  She is terribly lonely, but afraid of loving again, as she no longer has a flower to give.

Friendships

Akemi: Something about the nervous young lady reminds Becky of herself when she lived with her mate.  She cares deeply for the girl and always has a spared bed in the cottage available for when she passes through the town.

Zip: Becky's good friend from childhood.  Zip comes by once in a while for food and does chores around the B&B.
