Joshua is an aspiring Pokemon Professor who's main area of study is Pokemon Communication and Relationships. His dream is to steer trainers away from mindlessly catching Pokemon and more towards befriending them naturally. While he is well meaning, he can sometimes become very... passionate about his causes. Joshua tends to get a bit overzealous when arguing his points, and can occasionally hinder rather than help his cause. Joshua is known to have a knack for befriending Pokemon, but he's quick to remind others he just takes the time to "learn their language" and happily offers pointers to recognize body language cues.
He's a very studious guy, and loves to spend time researching topics he's fixated on. He is excitable and eager to tell anyone and everyone facts about the things he knows, and has a bad habit of talking a bit too much. He doesn't always catch the hint when others aren't too eager to keep the conversation going, which can occasionally hurt his relationships with others. He does mean well though, just needs to work on those social cues a bit more.
Joshie cares a great deal for all of the Pokemon and people in his life, and wants nothing more than to be around them and they be happy. He might get a bit more than he bargained for in Benjamin, a pompous little guy who's hogging all the good library books and seems hellbent on being miserable. But dang it, Joshua knows there's a good person in there, and he's going to help bring it out!
About
Joshua was born into a textbook loving family, until his father left without so much as a goodbye when he was too young to really remember (2 years old.) Despite this, he's grown up with nothing but love from his mother and older sister. He's quite the mama's boy, and grew up very clingy and was often called a crybaby by others. As a young child, he had difficulty forming close friendships, as other kids would often find him weird. This was complicated by the fact he and his sister did not have a great relationship for a chunk of his childhood. He was known as a friendly kid, but also seemed to have trouble forming close friendships with other kids. Most of his interests (Bug Pokemon, Nature Documentaries, Sci-Fi Movies, and Myths and Folklore about legendary Pokemon) weren't really things other kids his age were into or cared enough about to listen to Joshua talk on and on about.
Early Life
While he always found company in his Pokemon, who he loved dearly, it wasn't an adequate replacement for the human connection he was looking for. In desperation for friendship, he would often find himself tricked and taken advantage of. Social cues weren't always his strong suit. As he got older, part of him understood this wasn't a healthy way to interact with others, but surely it was better than being alone, right? He really could not bear the though of being the guy with no friends, so he continued to make some questionable choices. As he ventured into his late teens, he had a stint where he would do nothing but party. It was easy, you could go and be so close to others, and everyone loved the funny guy right? At some points he wouldn't remember what happened the night before at all, which might have been for the better.
Late Teens
After a couple "come to Arceus" moments and a few stupid drunk calls to mommy for help, he decided to do his best to put that behind him. He decided to "lock in" and work hard in his classes, hoping to bring his GPA up to be able to get into a good college and seriously persue his dream of becoming a Pokemon Professor. Despite his less than perfect GPA, he was still able to get into a prestigious college in Unova with a very renowned Poke-researcher program after one of his scholarship letters (with extensive research paper attached for good measure) was hand selected by a professor that saw a bit of Joshua in himself. His mother tried to help out with tuition as much as she could, but he still had to take out a few loans for it. He gets by working odd jobs like tutoring or poke-sitting and money his mom sends him monthly.
Currently

Personality
Joshua has a big heart, and while it is easily bruised, it has a lot of love to give. He cares deeply for those in his life, and will happily drop almost anything to help them out or spend time with them. His love languages are physical touch and quality time. He's the type of guy to sit a little too close on the train or "accidentally" brush hands when walking next to you. Joshua tries his best to be optimistic, and does like to see the good in everything before losing hope. While he loves to give pep talks, sometimes he's not the best at following his own advice, especially when it comes to keeping organized.
He gets extremely excitable when talking about things that interest him. He is extremely passionate about a lot of things, be it his relationships with others or this really cool bug pokemon he just has to tell you about right now. Look at it, it's right there it's normally nocturnal but it's out right here! He's very perceptive, and tends to notice little things that others would often ignore. This also carries over to how he views others. While the perceptiveness can be helpful in noticing when a friend might need a hug, it's also a hindrance as he tends to notice when people seem "annoyed" at him. Being a bit of a sensitive guy, this often leads to him feeling like he has done something wrong and feeling bad about the entire interaction. Due to his childhood, he has a very deep rooted insecurity about not being good enough and people in hid life leaving him for it.
Trivia
- Joshua is a vegetarian, but doesn't exactly eat healthy
- Joshua has a love of energy drinks, but knows deep down he should probably stop drinking multiple a day
- He loves to sketch from life, mainly Pokemon. He will draw things for you if he likes you
- Joshua has a lot of anxiety about cars, and will only ride with a few select people. He usually opts for public transit, walking, or his Pokemon when able.
- If you need a trivia partner, Joshua is your guy! He's full of facts about various things, but especially Pokemon and Sci Fi movies.
- Joshua is a big lover of 2000's style numetal
- He HATES wearing pants and close toed shoes, and will avoid it until it is absolutely nessecary
- Against his better judgment, he loves to also argue on internet forums
Pokemon Team
Cosmo [ Starter ]
A gift from his mother for his 5th birthday. Cosmo is his best buddy, and extremely loyal and helpful. Since Joshua tends to forget things or simply slacks off, Cosmo tries his best to keep Joshua in line. Has no interest in evolving or battling and is never in his Pokeball unless absolutely necessary. Follows Joshua everywhere and they are very rarely apart.
Artie [ Battle ]
Joshua found Arte while trying to do some research on wild Pokemon in Johto. She had been eating all of the bait he left out, basically ruining his project. She also decided to follow him after, as he had all the good food. Joshua decided to let her tag along, and they've been buddies since. Artie has a fighting spirit, and loves to battle and spar. While Joshua isn't much of a battle trainer, he humors her. She is able to Mega evolve and is known to be a bit food aggressive.
Nana [ Companion ]
Found injured while Joshua was traveling in Hoenn. He nursed Nana back to health after he had found her injured after a supposed attack from another Pokemon. After she was all healed, she wanted to continue traveling with Joshua, so he's been taking care of her since. She cannot fly do to the damage to one of her grass wings which unfortunately cannot grow back properly. Occasionally she will stay at Joshua's mom's house where she will take care of Nana.
Blue [ Battle ]
Found as a claw fossil during a group expedition for one of Joshua's classes. Joshua raised him from an Anorith and due to this Blue is extremely friendly and comfortable around humans. He gives many awkward claw hugs. Like Artie, Blue also has a bit of a battler's spirit, and Joshua often has him battle alongside Artie in double battles.
Mimic [ Companion ]
While Joshua was traveling, he caught a glimpse of Mimic and tracked it down over the course of three days, desperate to document this weird little blue Ditto. Mimic seemed to enjoy the chase, and had a lot of fun disguising itself to throw Joshua off. Joshua eventually did catch up, and managed to corner it, offering some food and a hand in friendship. Luckily for Joshua Mimic decided to follow, and now he has a Pokemon that can transform into just about anything. This makes it a prefect model for Joshua's drawings.
Lum [ Companion ]
Found hiding in a Lum berry bush Joshua was unfortunate enough to try to grab some berries from. He was bitten, but the little gal seemed to take a liking to him despite the initial bad impression. He wasn't too happy at first but she is quite cute. She usually hangs around whatever house he's living in and is rarely in a Pokeball.
Mori [ Battle ]
After the Nincada that came in Benjamin's berry shipment evolved, Joshua took the Ninjask while Benjamin took the Shedninja. Mori is very fast, and has a bit of a mean streak. Not particularly friendly to strangers, he has become a bit of a security feature at the Cosmos household. Anyone who isn't a friend of his trainer's is not a friend of his. However, he can occasionally be bribed with honey and sugar water. Joshua will use him in battles alongside his Armaldo and Heracross.
Trill [ Companion ]
Trill was given to him by one of his Mother's friends, concerned that she might be dangerous for her son to have. Despite trying to explain Kricketot are basically harmless, it just wasn't meant to be. She now happily loves with Joshua, and has free reign of the house and yard. She realyl enjoys Benjamin's piano playing, and will often be found with him if he's playing it.
