Terminology - Heaven's Court

Classification

  • God

A being that originated on Heaven's Court. It's unclear how they came to be. Gods are significantly more powerful than Spirits, and hold more influence, but it's hard to always tell at a glance which is which.

Classification

  • Spirit

A being that originally was a mortal, but was granted a place on Heaven's Court by a god upon their death. This can happen for a variety of reasons. The majority of souls do not ascend to the Court, though, as they must be brought for a purpose. Their morality has nothing to do with their chances of ascention, as deities do not see morality anyway.

Subclass

  • Keeper

A subclass of deity, found in both Gods and Spirits. The rarest subclass, Keepers are typically archivists told to log facets of the mortal plane. Generally the most powerful subclass.

Subclass

  • Protector

A subclass of deity, found in both Gods and Spirits. Protectors are close to the traditional idea of a deity "embodying" something, though not exactly. They are to always avoid contact with the mortal plane and are forbidden from influencing it.

Subclass

  • Harbinger

A subclass of deity, found in both Gods and Spirits. Like Protectors, they are close to the traditional idea of a deity "embodying" something, though not exactly. They are the ones closest to the mortal plane and their "job" is to directly influence it.

Terminology - Phantoms

  • Phantoms

"Phantom" is the catch-all term for non-ascended spirits. Many types of phantom can be called upon - or call to - "hosts", who carry a portion of their energy with them to allow them to return to the mortal plane.

Common

  • Rested

Beings that have passed and now rest peacefully. They can not be called upon. Their minds are lost now, and they simply drift quitely until being fully forgotten.

Common

  • Demons

Demons are the second most common subset of phantoms, that can only be "freed" with ritual means. They are fully sentient and possess a body indepedant of their host. These are spirits who passed in turmoil, and thus never achieved rest in the afterlife, but were also not called up to the Court. Often violent, but they are by instinct obedient to their hosts.

Parasitic

  • Oracles

A rare species of phantom that doesn't bear a physical form, and lacks identity. Born from spirits who died with a desperate attachment to something remaining, but wthout anger, Oracles are parasitic and seek out hosts. It is extremely difficult to bear host to one, as both the oracle and host must be seeking eachother at the exact same time
