About

Rigid • Cold • Precise • Competitive

Blaire's tone is consistently professional, impersonal, and unflenching. Due to the responsibility of her inheritance, Blaire is fixated on maintaining the traditions of her Orthodox Satanic family, strictly adhering to the rules and precedents of the role she was born to serve. Perfection is the standard, not grounds for pride. Failure is unthinkable. When upset, she has a tendency to be extremely harsh with her words while maintaining perfect composure.

Unsurprisingly, Blaire has little in the way of earnest social relationships.

General

Blaire is the heiress to the Bastette family, and does not take her responsibility lightly. Aside from her familial duties (like wealth politics, religious practice, or overseeing the breeding of the Bastettes' prize-winning peacocks) she engages in competitive horseback riding, foxhunting, and fencing. While she enjoys these activities, all of her hobbies were chosen for her by family and caretakers.

Illness

Blaire became terminally ill in her late 20s, a couple of years after her mother passed away from the same illness--one which she never shared with her daughters. Her illness rendered her weak and barren, ruining her chances for pursuing her own interests or having an heir. Despite her best efforts to similarly keep her illness hidden, Blanche discovered this fact (though her attempts to help were vehemently rejected).

Upon being married and turned by her vampire lover, she gained immortality and was cured of her illness, returning her health and eliminating the need for a child, though this act killed him. After the death of her husband, her resulting depression causes her to become uncharacteristically sardonic and rash.

Trivia

• Blaire primarily plays the cello, but is also skilled at playing the piano; she is the only Bastette to play percussion.

• She privately dreams of being an ice skater, but is resigned to observing the sport only.

• Blaire favors swans because of their grace, intellect, and occasional brutality.

• Her respective flower is the lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis).

• She favors Baroque horse breeds, in particular the Friesian and Andalusian.

• Blaire speaks French most often, but the formality of her English (as her second language) matches her natural diction and demeanor.

Mother (TBN)

Mother (Deceased)

Raised primarily by non-related caretakers, Blaire's relationship to her mother is impersonal and business-like. However, Blaire appears to have a deep respect for the matriarch. Her respect diminishes when she inherits her family's legacy and her mother's secret terminal illness.

Younger Sister (Living)

Describing their relationship as strained is an understatement. Blaire acts as an additional authority figure in Blanche's life, strictly forbidding her use of necromancy and resenting her disinterest in tradition. They share little in common. When Ambrose dies, Blaire's change of disposition unsettles Blanche, while Blaire internally feels increasingly attached to Blanche--her only living immediate family.

Ambrose

Husband (Deceased)

Their relationship is deeply romantic and passionate, with Blaire never having felt so close to another individual before. They are openly affectionate toward each other, attending events and frequently spending time together. However, Blaire keeps her illness--her one secret--hidden from him. Vampirism is revered in Orthodox Satanic circles, making their marriage highly valuable. Shortly after they marry, Ambrose, a vampire, turns Blaire. Consuming her blood kills him, while her transformation heals her. It is unclear whether she knew turning her would kill him, but she is never the same after his death. Because there are no burns or stake wounds, rumors that she poisoned him run rampant in the upper crust.
