Atsuki Morikawa is the protagonist of season 1 of NSTMG. He is the leader of NSTMG (the team), the husband of Kaede Morikawa, and adoptive father of Nina Morikawa.

| Atsuki was born AFAB to a normal family in Tokyo, Japan. During his time at school, he decided that he wanted to become a magical girl. He transitioned shortly afterwards. Although he was a trans man he never lost interest in magical girl things. During his twenties he met and fell in love with a woman named Kaede; they soon got married. When they were in their late twenties they adopted a child named Nina. |
Atsuki is a cheerful and optimistic person who is confident in his abilities despite being disadvantaged in many ways. He is accepting and understanding, despite the way he gets treated by others. He is quite friendly and usually gets on well with most people. He is usually pretty laid-back about most things. It is rare for him to get angry. He is also compassionate and has a strong will, so much so that the Nerus could not corrupt him. However, he often has a tendency to set unrealistic expectations for himself and even others.

| Atsuki and Jira are close friends. Jira looks up to Atsuki as a father figure and mentor. Atsuki takes him under his wing, giving him advice, support, and sticking up for him. |
Kaede is Atsuki's wife. He met her during college and loves her very much, and the feeling is mutual. They are protective of each other, and adopted a daughter named Nina. |
Nina is Atsuki's adopted daughter. He loves her very much and shows her all the magical girl anime he watched as a kid. |
Atsuki and Brittany are close friends and teammates. Atsuki supported Brittany, encouraging her to be herself. |
Atsuki and Darcy soon become friends, as Darcy was the first one to support him. When Darcy began acting distant, Atsuki was worried about her, and tried to help her. When she turned on him, he was heartbroken. After she returned from being corrupted, the two somewhat managed to reconcile their friendship, but it wasn't the same as before. |
