Elijah is an extremely caring person. Since hes been very little hes always felt responsible of taking care of those around him. You could say he has a savior complex. He is fiercely loyal and protective and doesnt mind putting himself at risk as long as those he care about are happy. The opinions of the people he cares about is also something he values deeply and wishes to make them proud. This is not something most people know however. Elijah is very closed off and it is hard to get through to him. He has been hurt a lot and he had to grow up fast, therefore he has a tendancy to push people aside. At his core he is fun-loving, brave and a little mischevious person which has gotten him labeled as a troublemaker multiple times. Sometimes he can come off as mean and stand-offish, but this is rarely his intention.
Elijah is very trusting and gets easily emotionally attached. Because of this he has been deeply hurt in the past and he struggles with letting himself grow close with someone new and opening up again.
Elijah's mother died while he was very young, which placed him in a foster care system. He quickly got the reputation of being 'up to no good' and struggled with finding his place as he was constantly moved between homes. The adults around him seemed to find it easy to have someone to blame when things went wrong. He was a "bad kid" after all. He often lived together with different kids who he always felt a sense of care and responsibility towards. He'd end up making food when no one was home, do chores for the other kids, help solve issues and take the blame for when the other kids did something they werent supposed to. (Which didnt help with his reputation)
At age 15, Elijah gained a permanent "home" at the orphanage as he was getting old and there was little place left for him in the foster homes. He started sneaking out when he was able to and became a part of a community of teens in situations similar to his. Finally feeling some sort of belonging for the first time in his life, Elijah clung to the group and went along with whatever they did, even though it was problematic. During this time he grew to develop a crush for one of the older teenagers in the group, but this person took advantage of Elijah's feelings and his loyal and trusting nature to manipulate him and control him.
It all reached a burning point when Elijah for the first time refused to follow what everyone wished of him. When asked to steal money from the other kids at the orphanage, he refused, and in turn the group turned on him. Beat up, betrayed and left bleeding alone in an alley, ELijah was left heartbroken, all alone again.
Elijah never returned to the orphanage after that. Months passed living on the streets and learning to live on his own. One day while traversing the streets, he ran into a boy around his age, sitting alone clearly in distress. Caring as Elijah is, he approached the boy, learning that his name was Dean and that he'd just had a fight with his parents. After this meeting, Elijah finally regained some light back in his life. He began meeting with Dean almost daily, the two growing a deep connection and learning a lot about each other, learning that the two were similar in more ways than one. One day, Dean surprised him with the news that he wanted to join Elijah in being a runaway, and the two started their pursuit of happiness together.
