  •  Backstory

Samara doesn't remember much about her parents or her early life in the Domes, just that they apparently had no trouble giving her up to the military when she was little, and that at some point she got turned into a sea monster. She was generally disliked and teased often by the other kids, and the caretakers didn't do anything about it, deciding it would be best for her to toughen up on her own. One of the first things Samara learned was to hide her real self and make herself as small as possible. Thankfully, she was lucky enough to make two friends: Auster, a quiet little boy who was as caring and gentle as he was protective, and Lethe, a very loud and chaotic little girl that never seemed to let anyone or anything get to her. They were everything to her, partly because they were the only friends she had.

The wishes of the caretakers, for her to toughen up, did eventually come to pass; every now and then, Samara would get sick of people pushing her around, and would fight back. The unusual strength for her age quickly garnered attention, and she was officially placed into training earlier than normal, at a mere 13 years old. It didn't take her very long to rise in the ranks, and found herself working to be an elite before she knew it. A combination of things made life much more stressful than it should have been for someone her age...
  •  Before/During Singularity

While Samara moved steadily up the ranks, her friend Lethe constantly got demoted; despite it, she made sure she made time to hang out with her and be there for her as much as she'd been there for Samara. Hanging onto that friendship had its cost, though; everybody she ever ran into--save for Auster and one other trainee--relentlessly bullied her for daring to have any association with her, especially her commander. In fact, her commander was the worst of them all, ruthlessly and constantly putting her down for any reason she found (including being friends with a known troublesome recruit). Though she was used to the rest of the troop's mistreatment, Samara found herself desperate to earn her commander's approval. She pushed herself to her limits, then further past them in every training session. It was never enough.

Learning not to bother anyone with her emotions, she always pushed them away in favor of logical reasoning and only ever released any of it by fighting. This gave her an extra edge in her training, and ultimately turned her into one of the strongest and youngest elite soldiers anyone had ever seen. Despite this high standing, Samara was never happy. Eventually it pushed her to run away from it all.

There was a short interaction with the mysterious Depths, but it quickly proved too dangerous to remain there for long.
  •  After Singularity/in Splatsville

It took her quite some time to reach Splatsville, and the need to move there only occurred thanks to an incident in Inkopolis that she never brings up. This--along with everything else from before--had a deep effect, however, because now she fully isolates herself. She doesn't try to make friends, or even have basic interaction with others--fearing that what happened before would happen again, to the point that she believes her frequent nightmares are supposed to help her remember why she doesn't deserve so much as another person's acknowledgement.

Her efforts didn't work with everyone though, as she eventually found someone to lean on in the form of Bay, an Inkling that was kind and patient enough to earn her trust, and eventually became her boyfriend. He's the only one so far she's ever been able to be vulnerable with. She still makes the effort to stay away from others, even as some decide to bully, but having Bay around makes her feel less lonely. She's happy enough with that.
  • Auster Best Friend

Auster is Samara's first and very best friend. Samara had been outcasted/bullied from an early age, and Auster's gentle kindness ended up being what got her through so much of it. They grew to be something like siblings...which made leaving him back in the Domes hurt all the more.
  • Lethe Close Friend

Lethe was the second friend Samara ever made in the Domes. Her seemingly boundless energy occasionally became exhausting, but was simultaneously a relief; she had someone she could let her guard down and be an absolute menace with! Even when moving up in the ranks, Samara never dared to dismiss their friendship. She just treasured her that much.
  • That being said, her sudden disappearance...wasn't taken very well...
  • Amber Enemy

Amber is the cause of all of Samara's longest lingering issues. She was her Commander in the army, and the entire time was spent with Amber endlessly belittling and berating her. Despite this, Samara would push herself farther than anyone ever should--to the point it caused physical pain--out of desperation to gain her favor, to no avail. Amber's words still haunt her to this day.
  • Bay Boyfriend/Sig. Other

Bay was the first person in Splatsville that she encountered properly. She tried to push him away out of fear many times, but he was persistent and patient with her. He did a myriad of things to earn her trust, even as far asking her to teach him Octarian. It wasn't until he revealed to her just how alike they were that she fully trusted him, and now nothing can pull them apart.
  • EightAcquaintance (??)

Eight...didn't have any particular relationship with her in the Domes. They were in the same rank, and were aware of each other's existence, but that's about it.... what made him memorable, however, was that he never engaged in the constant bullying. Samara never got the courage to thank it for that, and regrets not doing so now.
