A taciturn man with a guarded personality. Matthew easily commands people around himself and knows what they want, thanks to the years he spent as a school teacher. Despite being born with an excellent affinity for magic, a dying art in his country- Matthew never became obsessed with "magic" on it’s own. He wasn’t attracted to knowledge or raw destructive power, but the reach and influence it gave him over the people. His is a story about corruption and self-justification. He keeps telling himself that everything he does is for his people, even though it's increasingly obvious that it's more about him securing victories against his foes. Since he has always been surrounded by ambitious and proud individuals, he takes special pleasure in humbling them at his feet. Even though he considers human pride to be a sin- it's also the sin he himself suffers the most. Matthew continues to pursue his career as a ruthless politician, despite that his daughter makes efforts to force him to see how his choices affect everyone around him.
