It is uncertain what this god's true intentions are, it may be easy to assume that a god of the concept of market is a cruel thing, but give him the benefit of the doubt:
Paratea is a caring god, and his role of the god of villages takes president over all else. He is a god of the people, not of the kings.
Those who look to him for his good fortune are those who have been struggling in economic system which only lifts up the wealthy. He wants these people to find success and to earn comfortable lives. But his abilities are limited.
He came into godhood in a time where the trade of goods was more prevalent than the usage of currency.
He does what he can to change things for the people, taking the appearance of a business man as a mask.
His cannot exert much control over the mortal realm, as he is a near forgotten god, wiped from mortal memory.
While Paratea is an immortal being, unaging and difficult to kill, he is not invulnerable.
On the mortal plane, already weakened, he could theoretically be destroyed
It is a fear which sits in the back of his mind
