Story
Character Stories 1
Once a little bird, took flight on his little wings and flew across green landscapes with no mission in mind. The little black bird was free, and free he would stay. He was not tied down by the mortal idea of gravity and could go where his heart desired.
But what's this? Something that glimmers in the sun has caught his eye? So down, down the little crow flies, his eyes mesmorized by the shiny coin in this person's possession.
"What are you doing here, crow?" A voice asks, and the little bird only dips his head. He wants the shiny object that had caught his attention, nothing more. The voice laughs and hands over the piece of mora, watching as the crow pokes at it with his beak. The bird takes the coin, and flies away.
This is only the beginning of a long friendship.
Character Stories 2
The bird returns, and the person always has something of interest for him. Coins, chains, little knicknacks that light up in the sun, the crow takes and takes, returning each day for something new.
One day, the crow finds the person outside with something new in their hands. This interests the little crow, and he curiously caws. The person rips off a piece for the bird, and he eats. Oh. This was something new, something fun, something yummy. This, the crow liked. And so, it begins.
Soon, the person has the crow eating out of his hands, and the bird finds himself spending more and more time with this person. This person named Rukkhadevata. "Here, Crow." They would call, and the bird would answer. It becomes normal to see the Dendro Archon roaming Sumeru with a crow ( a so called bird of death ) on their shoulder.
But not all good things last.
Character Stories 3
The little bird grows old, and soon, the little bird is no longer little. Yet, he stays by Rukkhadevata's side, through sickness and health. He has decided to spend the rest of his days with this person, this person who feeds him, who cares for him, and who warms him on cold nights.
Crows however, do not live for a very long time. This one has already exceeded his average lifespan out of pure determination to stay with his person for a little while longer. He has carried messages, warned troops and even served as a symbol of power for the archon. He will not die now.
But he is just a bird, and he is not immune to the call of nature. One cool winter night, the bird closes his eyes, and never opens them again. A light greets him, and in true crow fashion, he spreads his wings towards the bright light.
"Wake up little bird, I have a job for you."
Character Stories 4
The crow opens his eyes, but he is no longer confined in a little feathered prison. He has arms and legs, a smooth face and even hair sprouting from his head. "Guide those who are lost with the same dedication you gave to Rukkhadevata." He hears, and then. He is gone.
Self dubbed as Kro ( as it was all Rukkhadevata would call him ), the newly reborn spirit guide is filled with the urge, the need to see Rukkhadevata. But it has been a few years since his death as a crow, and the third archon war has arrived. He is far too busy with the new onslaught of deaths to search for his life long friend. He is not even sure the archon will know him.
Go to the chasm. His instincts tell him, and Kro follows. The death there is overwhelming, the world is tearing itself apart. But Kro works, he promised his dedication, and they will get it. A cry that seems to echo in his ears shakes him out of his stubor. He knows that voice, the same voice that would call out his name so affectionately.
For the first time, Kro speaks. "No, Rukkhadevata!"
Character Stories 5
Kro hated his new life, in all his time as a spirit guide, never would he think he would have to guide his old friend's soul through the afterlife. He almost refused, but he would not forgive himself for allowing someone else to guide this person he holds so dear to his heart. Rukkhadevata does not even recognize him.
"I wonder if that bird is waiting for me." The archon mumbled, but the words could have been shouted. Kro stopped in his tracks and turned around, the former archon now staring at him. Kro can't stop the small voice that breaks out of his throat. "He is." They are at a standstill, and Kro can't take it. He breaks.
For the first time, Kro cried. And not even Rukkhadevata's recognition can comfort him. Kro may forgive Rukkhadevata's death, but he will never forget.
The one who struck Rukkhadevata down will face his blade.
