The Siren is the scourge of the seas, enemy to ship and sailor. Her vicious nature and lethal, uncontrollable mage powers make her particularly dangerous towards those with weak discipline. She's large, strong, and full of unrestrained hatred. [65]

History


-- The Siren was born on a merchant ship to middle aged equine sailors. When they saw her mutated form, however, they threw her overboard in revulsion and fear, to be lost at sea.

-- Having survived the circumstances of her birth, and knowing nothing of the surface world, she haunted ships in her youth out of interest and curiosity. However, her magic (well outside of her control) accidentally lured many to their deaths, and she was eventually attacked on sight by most ships and crews.

-- Now that she's very old, she has a deep hatred of passing ships and sailors. The recent increase in witchfinder ships and patrols that have attempted to capture her has only heightened this hatred, and she will seek out ships and hover below, using her passive magical effects to lure the weak-willed to a watery grave. She has no knowledge of surface politics, and hates all the same, but exhibits extra curiosity towards hippocampus creatures, who look similar to her.

-- She is very large, and very physically strong, and will viciously drag overboard sailors deep under the waves. She is partially carnivorous, gnawing on fish and ocean floor scraps, and when there are no ships to be found, she'll actively hunt other sea creatures.

-- She has a very feral mentality and cannot be easily communicated with. The only noise normally makes is the eerie clacking of her skull jaws.

Creatures in the Siren's vicinity are drawn into the water, diving into depths beyond their abilities. Perhaps a noble soldier thought he saw someone struggling in the water, and dove in to help. Perhaps a greedy sailor hallucinated treasure beyond their wildest dreams, and made an attempt to retrieve it. In order to completely resist the effects of Lure, the target's Discipline must be higher than Siren's Power. If they are equal, the target may choose whether or not to react to the power of the Lure.

Costs

  • Magic is weakened under specific circumstances: The target must be near a large enough body of water to physically dive into. If there is no source of water present, Lure does nothing.
