Kalani

Currently going through a massive story overhaul.

Kalani Eton is a young inventor, following in his father's footsteps. When his father died young, he was sent to live with a close family friend and her son, who would help him further build his fathers so far incredibly successful company. He's incredibly smart and hardworking, very taught from a young age you always need to be busy, making change and innovations. Kalani hates feeling unproductive or doing things he deems 'time wasters'. He can learn almost anything when he puts his mind to it, or so he likes to think.

As now the head of the company, he hosts many exhibits to show off the latest inventions and products, and is often invited to such events by others. Kalani knows how machines work, he knows how coding works, he doesn't, however, know how people work. This is hard to see at first, as he speaks smoothly and thoughtfully, with charm and grace, but really he's rehearsed these lines ahead of time. "Hello, how's the family?" "Wonderful to see you tonight" "So glad you could make it, do you have the time to talk business?". He's an NPC repeating dialog until it starts looping. So if a conversation turns personal, or to another unexpected note (off script, if you will), all the confidence goes out the window and he becomes a stuttering awkward mess.

Kalani is a perfectionist, if he can't master something, he'll find out enough about it to pretend that he has. He's also rather childish, and will never admit he was in the wrong with anything, and often picks petty fights with his newfound family. He's about as social as he is reclusive, forcing himself to get out and socialize to promote his brand, but enjoys being locked away in his workplace, fiddling with his newest creation. He's very closed off from people, with his strategic approach to conversation, he keeps everyone at arms length and away from any serious topics. With everyone around him being rather harsh in nature, he's convinced himself he doesn't need to open up to anyone, and he's very uncomfortable with affection or concern being shown to him.

Speaking of those around him: Kalani's father kept strange bedfellows, one of those being a rich and powerful friend of the family who sponsored a lot of his projects and helped him get his business to where it is today. He always knew she had some shady dealings, but overall trusted her. When he died, Kalani was sent to live with her, and calls her Auntie. What no one knew at the time, however, was that she was a notable crime lord. She often sent her son and goons to steal valuable artifacts to add to her collection of knickknacks. Kalani was of course shocked when he found out, but Auntie could make or break his company, and his future, with the snap of her fingers. So he plays along and sometimes helps her with her schemes, while allowing her to use his business as a front for her illegal activities.
