Saturn [PERFAUNT]

Profile
More Godly Than A Peasant, Less Godly Than A God
"Calm, my dear, a frown doesn’t look nice on such a pretty face as yours,"
Though he is currently traveling across Griffia with a ragtag group of weirdos, Saturn is a conman who previously made a living by impersonating deities and powerful people. Most notably, he had recently taken over a long abandoned temple that used to belong to an old god and was pretending to be said god, who was an angry, hateful deity, in order to form his own group of worshippers. It was mainly just a scheme for attention, power, and money. Many people who believe in the god he was impersonating and the associated deities, thought that they had long since disappeared, as there hasn't been any sign of them in ages, and the records of their appearance, powers, and temperament were just vague enough for Saturn to convince others that he himself was the deity.
The seemingly monumental task of making himself appear to be a godly being was greatly helped by the fact that he inherited extremely potent illusion magic from his ancestors, a rare and bountiful ability that, while it did not make him a god in actuality, could make him appear as anyone and appear to be doing anything. Seeing is believing, after all, and though he could not conjure fire or summon great beasts, he sure could make most common folk believe that he could. Over the years he had trained his illusions to be so realistic, so pure of clarity, that they could fool even the most cynical of mortals. There are limits to his magic and his illusions would wither and fade if passed through, but he remains tactical in his usage and limits himself in order to remain unfatigued. How convincing his illusions are relies solely on his study of the world and how it works. He has diligently studied the structure and lifestyle of beasts great and small and the movement of elements and how they affect the world and each other in order to conjure compelling images. It is quite like how an artist must study their subject to draw it, Saturn’s illusions are only as strong as his understanding of the subject. His favorite illusions are those of a great, white stag, of which are nearly impossible to distinguish from reality, though he struggles greatly with insects and plantlife, which can look very disjointed and fuzzy if summoned.
Saturn may look pretty and kind but he is actually quite cruel and attention seeking. He has the desire for all eyes to be on him and he doesn't care what he has to do to get it. He's not evil, per say, and has never gotten to the point of harming people physically but he is very manipulative and gets very angry when he doesn't get what he wants. He holds a convincing good guy façade, but would definitely not be considered a good guy by most people who see past his cons. Deep down, he hates how loathsome he acts but doesn't really know how to get people to notice him other than to act out or pretend to be something that he's not. Over his lifetime he has found that nobody has ever really liked him for himself so he's opted to mimic and impersonate other people instead. He likes pretending to be people who are important and who have worth because, truthfully, despite the boasting and smug attitude he exudes, he has a vitriolic hatred for himself and is cripplingly insecure. He craves love and affection to a dangerous degree but is too scared to let anyone in and too outwardly toxic for anyone to want to try. This loop of pulling people in with manipulation and burning any potentially meaningful bridge before it gets built has left him in a lonely, depressing spiral that he doesn’t know how to get out of. It’s much easier for him to keep seeing others as pawns than for them to genuinely get to know him and end up hating him anyways. He does not want to go through any more rejection in his life ever again.
Currently, he has found a small group of griffolk to travel with. His old antics of impersonating deities got the attention of the God Slayers and with nowhere else to turn he ended up tagging along with Tybalt, Orion, and Steve. Him and Orion have forged a bond of mutual respect, though she pushes every single one of Saturn’s buttons, and Tybalt and Steve seem immune to his schemes and ego, which annoyed him at first but now has become a relief, as they ignore his vies for attention while acknowledging his good behavior. Whether or not they do this on purpose, Saturn does not know, but it’s a form of validation and positive reinforcement that he has not experienced in so long and so he has begun to relish in the group’s praise, though he often feels like a stupid child when he acknowledges that he does so.

Extra Info
Childhood
Saturn was born into an extremely rich and regal family. His father was a Baron and owned a long stretch of land, ruling the small towns within it as a sort of monarchical mayor. The land was rich in ores, especially crystals and precious metals, which had made Saturn’s ancestor’s very wealthy. As the first born, Saturn was set to inherit his family’s land and rule and was expected to attend many a dinner party and ball involving the surrounding royal families and other regal folk. He was expected to be perfect and prim and proper and to only speak when spoken to. Despite his family being important, they were amongst the lowest tier of royalty in the country, invited to all of the special gatherings but made to sit furthest from the host. Because of this, Saturn’s family began preparing him at a young age to marry rich and grow the family’s prestige. His parent’s rarely fostered his own interests and affinities, instead forcing him into music and dainty “lady like” arts like crocheting and embroidery, which allowed Saturn very little time to explore his own talents. As he reached teenhood, Saturn began acting out, skipping classes, running away from home for days at a time, talking back, etc.Their treatment of him plus their unwillingness to accept his identity made his young body boil over with frustration and anguish. He rarely felt heard and so would often scream at his parents, not that the noise level ever made any difference. When Saturn was around 15, his parents announced that they would be adopting a new child, one who would be a better fit for inheriting the family’s fortune, as Saturn was “turning out to be such a disappointment”. They threatened to disown him and give his inheritance to his new adoptive brother Dusty if he didn’t “shape up”. Since Dusty was acquired to be a replacement for saturn, much of their parent’s scorn was placed onto the younger bean. Saturn couldn’t bear to see his new brother be treated as he had been for so many years and so he began folding to his parent’s whims more and more, if only for them to not move their focus onto Dusty. Saturn and Dusty got close very fast, it was hard to find allies under such a hostile roof, and they found refuge in each other's company, finding time to draw and play games together. However, the brother’s weren’t able to spend much more time together as Saturn’s parents decided to send him off to a boarding school. They framed it as a reward, as they were “pleased with his progress” but to Saturn it just proved how little they cared for him and how little they wanted to do with him. He did not want to go but knew that his parent’s fury would only harm Dusty in the long run so agreed to leave, for his brother’s sake only. While Saturn was on the other side of the continent for two years, he tried to send letters to Dusty but never got a reply. When he was 18, Saturn was welcomed home with much fanfare. Having had behaved himself, his parents now thought him worthy of their estate and since he had come of age they were willing to relinquish some of their power to him. However, he arrived home to find no Dusty, and when he questioned it his parents simply said that they “had no need for him any more” since their true heir had gotten his act together and proved himself to be worthy of their praise. Shocked and infuriated, Saturn asked where they had sent his brother off to and they told him to not worry about it. They had thrown Dusty out like a dog after years of treating the bean like a puppet, like a punishment for Saturn. They had sent him to who knows where and Saturn may never see his beloved little brother again. Saturn was appalled and for the first time in three years argued with his parents. All the pent up rage and sadness came pouring out and he decided to finally leave.
For about a year he searched the neighboring areas for any sign of Dusty but to no avail. He could not find a trace of his brother. Bitter, sorrowful, and running out of the money he stole from his parents before leaving, he settled down for a while to con some more funds out of unwitting folk, promising to continue his search when he had the means. He jumped from place to place and con to con for a while but was never able to find Dusty.
Current Life
Saturn is currently traveling across Griffia with Tybalt, Steve, and Orion. He reasons he can kill two birds with one stone this way, search far and wide for his long lost brother and avoid the consequences of his criminal lifestyle, win-win.

Design Notes
He is a crystalfaunt so ears and other species specific features must stay the same unless drawing a different form. Must be drawn with blue innards and blue eyes. Hairstyle can be anything as long as the length is similar to what's on his ref. Accessories are optional but at least glasses are preferred. His gemstones and horns are mandatory. Top left outfit on his ref is preferred when drawn in an outfit but anything works.

Orion
[ Traveling Companion/Tentative Friend ]
Their personalities complement each other well if you’re going for a “popular kids who spread rumors about you at their exclusive lunch table” vibe. They bond over gossip and sharing random trivia about their respective interests. Despite often giving off the vibe that he hates her guts, Saturn trusts Orion with his life and she is the first real bond he’s had since he was a child. They bicker like siblings but Orion seems to get him like no one else does, which isn’t surprising as Orion is extremely intuitive and can read even the most locked diary of a person like a library book.
Tybalt
[ Traveling Companion ]
Tybalt is very hard for Saturn to read but he genuinely respects the older folk, even if he is often annoyed with him. Tybalt often treats Saturn like a kid but also affords him some much needed patience and guidance. Saturn finds Tybalt to be a calming presence and often catches himself taking the terra’s word without a single grain of salt..
Steve
[ Traveling Companion ]
Saturn finds Steve’s penchant for dad jokes and casual, care-free attitude to be endlessly irritating. Despite this, he trust’s the splicer’s judgment and respects that the odd, aloof folk is a master in his field and simply an encyclopedia of folklore fun facts and mythological knowhow.
Zeke
[ Enemy ]
Zeke is someone that Saturn currently holds much spite and venom for. Just as Saturn began to feel comfortable in his little group of wanderers, Zeke showed up to threaten the tentative peace Saturn had found and the lives of the ones he had begun to open up to. He is also infuriatingly frustrated by Zeke’s neverending pep and charisma, wishing the lee would take just a single thing seriously for once.
