Becks Warborn

Becks is a presence to be reckoned with. His sheer size seems dominant, his wild mane and the big fluff around his neck underline his almost majestic appearance. His face and body look rough, marked by countless battles. His beard has gray strands, giving him a somewhat aged look despite being at the peak of his life. Paired with an always angry/very serious gaze, Becks seems unapprochable and like someone you don't want to mess with. Usually he wears his barbarian-style leather armor, or wearing thick fur coats when the cold of the northern lands get too harsh. Since he is a mercenary there are always weapons visible on him, most noticably his main weapon, a nordic longsword. With his size, rough looks, his armor and weapons, it's not rare that people assume he is a barbarian, bandit or looter - so most people react hesitant or scared to meeting Becks.

While Becks surely is rough around the edges, even in his behaviour, Becks is a man of honour. He only fight fair fights and he doesn't take advantage of the weaker. He is very aware of his actions, trying to be fair to whoever he deals with. Also, the big bad wolf is rarely ever seen alone. He travels with his pack, his group of mercenaries that he leads. The other wolves seem to respect him, and he respects them back, eventhough they like roughhousing a lot. All in all, despite Becks efforts to seem approachable (especially to potential customers), he usually gives off a dangerous vibe and not many dare to speak to him. (Many of his customers like to approach other members instead (and it makes Becks a bit sad).)

Becks is the leader of a pack of wolf mercenaries, and that definitely shows in his personality. He has a very dominant nature, making sure that his little rebells stay in line and follow his lead. While he can be rough and exceptionally scary when angered, he usually keeps a cool head and stay focussed in his line of duty. In fact, he usually tries to look approachable and like a good person, but his looks, his job (with his armor and weapons) and his pack all make him seem intimidating. So when he is in town, he often takes off his armor and weapons and tries to smile a bit more friendly from time to time so people aren't so scared by him when he tries to interact with them. Towards strangers he is generally friendly and professionally serious, given that each of them could be a potential paying customer that needs his and his pack's help. Still Becks is never really trusting any strangers, not even his own customers - a few past incidents of people trying to betray him or scam him has formed him to be suspicious of anyone that doesnt belong to his kind.

During his work as a mercenary, he is openly protective about his client as he should be. He won't take unnecessary risks and often talks his clients (or pack members) out of stupid ideas. He is strong-willed and therefore won't budge from his initial opinions. If he says its unsafe, then its unsafe, period! He is not afraid to throw a client out if they turn out to mean trouble for him and his pack - of course making sure his client gets brought to the nearest village or city to be safe. If his client is reasonable though, Becks will show himself open for discussions. During fighting, he is a fierce warrior who shows no fear. Usually he keeps his focus and therefore makes for a great swordsman during battle - but when things get out of hand, he is not afraid to transform into his werewolf size and maul his enemies with his bare hands and teeth. Bandits, thieves and anyone standing in his way receives no mercy unless they beg for their lives. If someone dares to mess with Becks or his pack, they will have a VERY bad time.

Speaking of his pack: They know Becks the best from anyone. Ever since he took the place as the leader Becks has pledged his life to them. He is madly protective about them, often getting violent if someone dares to pick on any of his friends. But towards them, he is kind and fair. Of course he has to be strict from time to time, or bite them back into their position, but usually Becks makes sure that everyone gets their fair share, and that everyone stays content. Their salary is devided fairly, wishes on how to spend the night (in a tent or in a tavern etc.) are usually followed up on, and every now and then Becks let the team stop at major cities for some "free time". He makes sure to praise good work and to correct wrong behaviour (which often leads to a few friendly fights between the more dominant members).

There is one instance where Becks is not so much in controll of himself as usual: Full moon. During full moons, Becks cannot hold his transformation back. Before transformation he will get anxious, restless and has the need to hide from the others. And once the transformation has occured, Becks is constantly fighting with himself to stay calm. But just the slightest irritation is enough to make him furious and aggressive. He has trouble knowing friends from foes and therefore already wounded one or the other pack member by accident when they set him off. Therefore Becks tries to avoid anyone he likes in this time. Normal folk would not survive him during full moon if they manage to push his buttons. Something he discovers a little later: Sex is the best way to appease the furious beast.

Becks was born one the youngest out of 3 sons (his older brothers Dyle and Laros) to the Warborn clan. His father Raynor took him from his nameless mother at an early age to raise him amongst his pack of mercenaries. From a young age Becks has been taught hunting, fighting, negotiating and everything else he needed to survive in the wilderness. As he grew up he mostly looked up to his older brother Laros, who, as the oldest, was working on someday taking over the pack and being the next leader. And while his father was somewhat aggressive and unfair, Laros was a much better role model for the young wolf. In his childhood, he used to play a lot with the older warriors, and they all loved the little energyball that was Becks. Raynor was quite proud of all of his sons and did his best to raise them to follow in his footsteps.

In a somewhat ceremonial ritual, all three sons (despite their different ages) were given the curse of Abel, being turned into werewolves by their father. Unfortunately the oldest brother, Laros, did not survive his first transformation. His body twisted and turned in unnatural way, his bones breaking but not re-healing as they were supposed to. While Dyle and Becks had no problems whatsoever, Laros' death was quite a heavy blow for the whole clan. They mourned this incident for quite a while, but then started to focus on Becks and Dyle and their training instead. One of them would take over the pack at some point - and they had to be ready.

Over the years, some pack members died, some foreigners joined instead, and Raynor grew old, bitter and weak. With his withering youth, Raynor started to become more and more rutheless, more aggressive, more dominant. He knew his time was coming when his sons would take his power away. While neither Dyle nor Becks wanted to kill their father, they held back for quite a long time - until another pack member decided that the reign of the rude and bitter old man was over. Another youngster, Bur, snapped after another argument with Raynor, and mauled him to death before anyone of the pack could do something against it. Then hell broke loose as nobody wanted to see Bur as the leader either - so Dyle and Becks were forced to jump into action, and a hard battle ensued. A few members who saw their own chance as the leader started to brawl as well. After almost an hour of werewolves fighting for their lives and ranks, one stood as the winner of the massive brawl: Becks. Dyle got badly wounded, Bur and two other power-hungry members died, and Becks was the only one standing. In just one day, everything had changed.

Since that day, Becks stood his ground against anyone trying to interfere with his leadership. His brother Dyle had lost one of his eyes and the ability to move his right arm correctly, which brought his fighting spirit down. Plus, Dyle was not that keen on leading the pack anyway. The beginning was rough, the mood and relationships were strained, and there was some movement of members leaving or new ones joining until it went well again. But by now his team is handpicked, with each of them deserving their place in their midst. Becks trusts all of those who are left and does his best to lead them with fairness and an open mind.
