The original angel of death, and one of the original Archons. Her romance with Lilith and her many bitter disagreements with Michael isolated her from most of the other angels (Gabriel and Lucifer being notably exceptions). Her insistence that reality was a temporary experiment, that God had moved on and would not return, gave Michael lease to overthrow her.
The death of Samael marked the first murder of angel by angel, far predating Cain's discovery, and irrevocably changed the nature of Heaven.
