BACKSTORY

It was official. Shelaygha Vitari, the master arcanist of Ishalon, had given birth to a girl, who’s destiny was to take her place when she could no longer rule. Quincel Vitari. She was a healthy child, but hard to dicipline as she grew. She was curious and questioning by nature, which was a trait that became troublesome during her time studying. And to Shelaighas tragedy, Quincel did not show a glimpse of interest for the arcane magic. She had always been loving and happy towards others …

”Children who showed kindness or love were brutally punished, so as to beat the instinct for cruelty into them ”

- And punished she was.

It didn’t take them long to figure out that Quincel had no interest to follow her mothers footsteps, and in anger, her mother burned the mark of their name into the childs back, and left her in the hands of a master assasin, who had been paid to teach her. The master used brutality and violence to break the childs spirit, teaching her the dicipline needed to become a good rogue.

She came back from the intense study, having a complete change in characteristics. The before so happy and curious child had turned cold, showing no sign of emotion towards her mother. At that time, she was only 12.

Due to the intense amount of stress that was put on her, she fell into sickness in her early puberty, and spent almost two years in bed, in and out of severe fevers and cramps, sometimes even bleeding from her nose. They never figured out what was wrong with her, but it eventually passed, after a very long while.

At the age of 14, she seemed shorter than the average drow, due to her illness in the early puberty. After she had been cured, she was forced to return back to her master, to learn even more. She obeyed like a dog.

The hate between Quins mother and her grew quietly, and so did the tension. Shelaygha was bitter that her only daughter had been so troublesome and unwilling in everything she did. She had never shown any interest for the wars between drows and dwarves, nor did she care about their important culture. Everything Quincel was taught was brutally forced into her, and nothing in the culture of drows beside wealth and luxury seemed to come to her naturally.

A few years passed, and everything seemed to be fine. Quincel had become emotionless on the outside, and she had kept training with her master, studied whatever she had to.

When her master told her she could teach her no more, Quincel simply went home to tell her mother the great news. But all she got in return was a dissapointed frown and a glimpse of her new sister, who seemed to be what her mother had always wanted. Loyal, emotionless and cruel. That’s when she knew it was over.

Quincel had just turned 20 years old, but she was still considered a child in the community. Even though she had become a talented young woman with a lot of potential, she had been so difficult to dicipline that a lot of the nobles were nervous. That was when Shelaigha had published that it was Quincels younger sister Lauriel, who would take her place.

That’s when Quin decided to leave. Anger had bottled up inside her for years, and she truly didn’t care about the drow society, nor wanted to be a part of it. One night, a few weeks after the publishment, she packed only her most important valuables and left her entire community behind. And she had made sure not to leave a single clue to where she could’ve gone. No proof of her leaving. The master had taught her well after all.

She had left her world behind to see the surface.
