As a small child, Sabiya catered to Kavisha’s wants and whims, but as she ages she outgrew her desire to please (or at least not displease) her older sister. As the older of the two, Kavisha outperformed Sabiya in politics and strategy, and so, determined to cultivate her own gifts, Sabiya focused on charity and art. Even though both are now adults, Sabiya avoids any activity in which she might have to compete with her sister.
Kavisha’s relationship with Sabiya never followed the beautified narrative of the doting, devoted older sister nurturing her sweet (if not slightly pampered) baby sister. Rather, when Kavisha was younger, she sent Sabiya off to do chores deemed to boring, such as getting herself a glass of water or brushing her own hair. She does not “ask favors” of Sabiya the same way she did when they were children, but remnants of her reliance occasionally reveal themselves in the form of frustration when Sabiya refuses Kavisha.
