Mephistopheles is the son of Lucifer, his other parent has never been known to anyone, not even the prince himself.
Lucifer raised him so that he may inherit the throne of hell someday, and that has put a tremendous amount of pressure on Mephistopheles. He always feels the need to keep everything about himself perfect, from his language to his appearance. You'll hardly ever see him without full attention having been paid to his makeup and the clothing he's wearing for the day. While he is supposed to learn from Lucifer to become hell's next ruler, the prince rarely ever sees his father. After Lillith left, Lucifer had a small palace built for his son before he sent him way. Mephistopheles and Charlie were very close as the two were growing up, but he hardly ever sees his little sister anymore either. Like his father at first, Mephistopheles isn't too keen on the whole redemption plan for sinners. But he still tries to support his little sister regardless.
Being the son of the devil, Mephistopheles does have a fraction of Lucifer's powers. However, he overused his magic growing up and ended up damaging his hands permanently. He has a hard time feeling things and often times has to wear special gloves his father made for him that enhance whatever he's supposed to feel when he touches something. His hands are black, with said blackness spreading up his arms, leaving him looking burned. Mephistopheles also damaged his legs, the skin from his feet to the middle of his calves is also blackened. There are times where he can be seen using forearm crutches as walking aids, but this is rare, as usually when these attacks happen, he'll stay in bed until it passes, and he can walk again.
Lucifer hardly ever let Mephistopheles interact with those outside his palace, as he was too worried that his son may be kidnapped or hurt. He's always been around other members of royalty (such as the other sins). Mephistopheles has rather fond memories of spending time with Asmodeus. The prince is extremely used to being treated as royalty, and he's confused if someone does not address him as such. However, he is hardly arrogant with his title and desperately craves the possibility of interacting with anyone outside of hell's royalty.
Unfortunately, Lucifer doesn't see him as a worthy replacement for the throne at this point, as his son doesn't seem to understand the gravity of his decisions and how they could affect the kingdom. Mephistopheles is unaware of this and still studies every day to someday take his father's place as ruler of hell. Lucifer doesn't have it in him to break the boy's heart.
Personality: Aloof and naive, unfortunately without much street smarts, he can be easy to take advantage of. He's extremely kind and will trust just about anyone willing to talk to him. He has a hard time understand social cues and will often take things literally. The prince has a very poor memory, and you'll see locations labeled in his house, so he knows where things are. He struggles with holding his attention on any one topic for too long, leading to him getting very bored at large meetings. He'll often rock back and forth as a way to comfort himself. Mephistopheles is a very giving and nurturing person and will go out of his way to protect those he loves.
Additional facts: When he was younger, Lucifer used to call him "Memphis" for short since the kid's name is such a damn mouthful.
