Backstory- As a child, Kiki lived with only her father as her mother died of an overdose when she was 3. She had a midnight blue coat when she was little and was often bullied for her small size and fear of pills, cigarettes, hospitals, and needles. One day, Loki and a bunch of bullies locked her inside a dark, windowless hospital room and left. She was there the whole night, as the room was so out of the way for nurses that they never checked it, and Kiki couldn't find the door as the room was so dark and she was too scared to move. She spent the night in a corner of the room crying, and the most extraordinary thing happened. She began to form glowing markings on her once dark blue fur, and she was able to see the door and a nurse was just passing by. The door was miraculously unlocked the whole time, and she got out safely, and Loki and his friends recieved the proper punishment.

Afer that, Kikiro never talked much until high school, where Loki found her,apologised profusely and proceeded to attempt to make friends with her. Kikiro didn't trust him at first, but when some of Loki's old friends began throwing paint at her because of her markings, Loki chased them off and held her until she stopped crying. Eventually Loki and Kikiro became very good friends, and Kikiro learned to be proud of her glowing markings and flaunts them in house parties and clubs, where she was, quite literally, the "light in the dark night."

Loki never really realized it, but from when he was small, he always adored Kiki and her midnight blue fur. He had no idea what to do with his feelings, and instead took them out on her. When his friends decided to lock her in the hospital room, Loki stole the key and unlocked the door at the last minute. He stayed right outside the door the entire night, listening to Kiki crying, and he began crying himself. He felt terrible and promised himself that he would never hurt her again. He watched over her for the rest of middle school, but he knew it wasn't enough. He wanted to get closer to her, so on the first day of high school, he reintroduced himself and apologised for what he did when he was smaller. It pained his heart that Kiki would always pull away from him, but he promised himself nevertheless to take care of her.
