Senja has been on her own for most of her life, and barely remembers the cats who brought her to this world. They disappeared too early for her to remember why they were absent, but decided their fates were most likely sealed by this very strange world and its dangerous inhabitants. Felines like herself were scarce, and so she never really had anyone to talk to.

The world Senja is placed in is similar and inspired by Studio Ghibli's unique and supernatural environments and creatures. Simple domestic like cats are often easy prey, and are few in numbers. They are spread out and commonly independent to reduce competition and resources, but can be friendly to and temporarily share meals with other felines. Families are usually around 3-5 cats, but kittens have a difficult path to adulthood. Cats in this world have a higher success rate in bonding and befriending more amiable creatures, and understand that establishing a mutualistic relationship is key. There are other cat species, but they differ in many physical and verbal ways.

Without friends or family, Senja discovered that she has an affinity for creatures as vulnerable and preyed on as she was. She busied herself during the day by helping smaller critters and rescued them when she could. This pushed her to take on an pescatarian diet alongside some bugs and honey every now and then. Her simple days of suvival shifted when word had gotten out about a safehaven for cats, a land called Ulthar that forbade the reaping of any feline. She noticed that many started to leave nearby territories, and overheard what the hullabaloo was about.

It was too good to be true, and she was afraid of setting out alone. Senja stayed behind, and ended up being one of the only cats within miles.
