"Oh.. ohh! Two children divine, the queen shall bear... but one will steal from the other, and emerge a golden heir..."

A Finger Reader prophesized that the Gloam-eyed Queen would grow two children within her divine womb, but one would absorb her greatness from the other and emerge an empyrean. Those children were Risera and Ragaroth.

Risera was born an empyrean, a mirror of her mother's divinity. Meanwhile, Ragaroth was born an omen child; cursed, twisted, and deformed. However, Ragaroth was hidden away immediately, and so Risera was brought up without any knowledge of her twin brother.

Risera was raised proudly by her mother and was taught the black flame incantations. Seeing as she was shown favour over the other Godskin children, however, there was much jealousy and resentment among the Queen's loyal apostles. This jealousy was often turned over to Ragaroth, who would suffer the brunt of their abuse in their castle dungeons. As a result, Ragaroth began to teach himself the art of shadows, which allowed him to disappear and follow along behind his mother and sister in secret.

When Maliketh eventually arrived to challenge the Gloam-eyed Queen, her defeated body turned into spirit ashes, fating the Queen to never fully return to the Erdtree or be reincarnated again.

The loss of her mother made Risera desperate, and she tried to relieve her mother's soul by bringing her ashes to the Erdtree. However, the Erdtree would not take the Gloam-eyed Queen, and her soul remained tethered to the Lands Between. Despaired, Risera laid herself against the Erdtree roots, and there she heard (what she believed was) Godwyn's voice from his pulsating, vulgar, yet soulless body. A plea for death, for silence, for rest. It came to her as a revelation, then, that there was no true order binding the demigods and the Erdtree--and perhaps even the Greater Will itself. That the permanence of the black flame was the only true order at all.

(Unbeknownst to Risera, the calling came from Ragaroth; a master of deception and shadow now, who continues to stalk and influence his sister from the darkness.)

Consumed by both a sense of purpose and revenge, Risera became intent on recovering her mother's Destined Death and rekindling the black flame, so as to burn the other demigods and the Erdtree to ashes, lay her mother to rest, and challenge the Greater Will.
