Story
Creation
In 1938 Stalowa Wola was established on the land of the village of Pławo and its hamlets of Chyłów and Swołów. It was created as a result of the decision to locate near the village of Pławo between the towns of Nisko and Rozwadów as part of the construction of COP, the so-called Southern Plants.
WWII
Before the outbreak of World War II, some factories and factory estates called Stalowa Wola were established. During the occupation, there was a resistance movement in the estate and the steelworks. There was a Home Army Post "Stalowa Wola", "154" belonging to the Home Army District Nisko. The village was captured by the Soviet army after the battles fought by the units of the 1st Ukrainian Front on August 1 and 2, 1944. Repressions by the NKVD began in Stalowa Wola. On April 1, 1945, Stalowa Wola received city rights.
After the War
In 1953, the city was made a separate urban district. In 1973, Rozwadów was added to it, and in 1977 - Charzewice. In the post-war years, the dynamic development of the city began. The development of the city was inextricably linked with Zakłady Południowe, which in 1948 was named Huta Stalowa Wola. For many years, the steelworks was a combine comprising a number of plants, also located in other cities.
Modern
Over the past 60 years, Stalowa Wola has grown from a small factory estate to a large city. In 1989, the city was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Since January 1, 1999, it is also a county town.
Trivia
- This character was created back in 2019 and hasn't changed much since then.
- The name of the city comes from the words of the then Minister of Military Affairs, General Tadeusz Kasprzycki, who said about the COP construction plan that "it is the steel will (stalowa wola) of the Polish nation to break into modernity".
