Story:

Miya was born in a small rural village of humans to a hunting dog. She  has two other siblings who look more like dogs while she looks like a wolf. While growing up she thought her father was also a dog but after Miya and her brother William started having impulses to hunt farm animals in the village and Miya was mistaken for a wolf by a farmer, her mother had to tell the her pups the truth. The mother told them about their wolf father, Silverstrike, who used to visit her and promised to take her with him to the wilderness and teach her how to live free from humans. At that time the mother, Minty, had believed the wolf and thought she wanted to be a wild animal, but as the humans took care of her while she was pregnant and Silverstrike stopped showing up she realized that the wolf had most likely had lied to her and she was better off staying with the humans who took care of her, even though she couldn't help her master hunt. She wished for her pups to be able to live their lives as dogs, safe and comfortable. The siblings were upset but Sandy, the most dog-like of them accepted the situation first and was content of living with humans for the rest of her life. William never forgive his mother and grew bitter. He had always been the loud bully of the siblings but now he was uncharacteristically withdrawn and quiet. It took Miya a while to forgive her mother but after talking with her family she decided it would be best for her to find her father or other wolves and live with them.

Miya ran far away from the village at night and was only stopped when her collar got stuck in some broken down trees and out of exhaustion stayed in that spot until a strange old dog found her. The old dog, Genta, freed her from her collar and Miya followed him deeper to the forest and to a place that was mostly solid rock. There lived a big pack of wolves and dogs, led by a huge older wolf. This wolf was Silverstrike, Miya's father, who looked almost exactly like Miya but much older and scarred. Silverstrike recognized Miya immediately as one of his children and accepted her to his pack. Miya asked her father why he stopped visiting Minty but Silverstrike would always dismiss her questions, to Miya's frustration.

Miya learned that old Genta was Silverstrike's advisor and also the one who trained the warrior-hunters and became one of his students. One of his young students, Luno the anatolian shepherd who was also her age, showed her around the area where the pack had settled. Soon Miya would learn from the rest of the younger packmembers that Silverstrike's pack was much bigger than packs usually were because Silverstrike had taken over the territories of the nearby packs and forced them to join his. He killed or exiled those who resisted or challenged him, even his own family members, and was a dangerous wolf who couldn't be trusted. Packs would usually travel across their territory but Silverstrike's pack was forced to stay in one place since it was so big and everyone was miserable, except for Silverstrike's elite who took advantage of the weaker packmembers as they wanted. The only one of his own pups who had remained and had a significant role in the pack was Graystride, who was too cowardly to challenge his fathers beliefs and would do his bidding. The rest of his children had either left, died or remained hidden among the rest of the packmembers. Silverstrike had had a few mates during the years but they had lost their lives or left. He had left to seek a stronger mate elsewhere and had found Minty but had kept Minty a secret from the rest of the pack. Older packmembers were wary of Miya and feared she would become like Graystride, crawling at Silverstrike's feet and begging for his acceptance. Miya soon met her half-brother and immediately disliked him. He reminded Miya of some of the humans she had met who let others be bullied for their own good.

One day Miya and Luno saw a young wolf climbing a trees and were shocked since no wolf should be able to clim trees but this wolf hopped from tree to tree like a squirrel. Miya tried to follow the strange wolf but lost them after a short while. Few days later this wolf would show up again. Miya and Luno cornered them and the stranger mistook Miya for Silverstrike. Miya cleared things up with her and the wolf told her she was called Snowdrop and if she truly wanted to do something about Silverstrike's tyranny she should follow her to meet someone. Luno was against this telling Miya it could be a trap made by Silverstrike's sympatizers. Miya was desperate to help the miserable wolves and dogs under Silverstrike's reign and followed Snowdrop, Luno right after her who followed out of fear. Snowdrop took Miya and Luno on a mountain where they met an older albino wolf who revealed that he was Silverstrike's twin brother, Moonstruck. He told the youngsters he had been seeking a way to stop Silverstrike and free the wolves and dogs under his tyranny. On top of Silverstrike making his pack miserable Moonstuck told that such a huge pack stuck in one place was a danger to everyone, since the humans could find them easier and would get rid of all the wolves and dogs there to protect their livestock. Silverstrike had been free to do as he wished since he and their father had been exiled after the mysterious disappearance of the old leader, their mother Clay. Moonstuck admitted he has become desperate since everyone was too afraid to join his cause to stop Silverstrike and seeing Miya and how much she looked like his mother has given him hope. Moonstuck couldn't battle Silverstrike since Silverstrike could easily best him and he was not able to do this alone with just Snowdrop, his adoptive daughter and apprentice. To Luno's dismay Miya agreed to help Moonstuck and Snowdrop. Before Miya and Luno left, Moonstuck warned Miya that old Genta was both Silverstrike's and Moonstuck's godfather and had sworn to Miya's grandmother to look after them and help whenever he could. Accourting to Moonstuck Genta disliked Silverstrike's way of leading the pack but Silverstrike used Genta's vow to Clay to his advantage and had manipulated Genta to think it was his duty as his godfather to support him. Miya and Luno left the mountain and returned to the pack Snowdrop accompanying them. It would take all their effort to encourage others in the pack to end their nightmare
