About

Born between a mushroom fairy and a great oak dryad, Oscar is considered an anomaly to most. While it is not wholly uncommon for two fey creatures to consummate a relationship as dryads and fairy folk are known to enjoy one another’s company, for the Mushroom Fairy Inky, love seemed impossible. A small winged fey donning skin whiter than a fresh blanket of snow, with black ooze resembling ink spilling from every open pore of his gangly body, he was deemed most unattractive even by Fey standards. However, there is no being unworthy of affection, a great oak dryad proving that even those deemed objectively repulsive to most could find a pair. From their union, they bore a small sampling, a sprout that would later form into an unusual combination between an Inky Cap and Oak Tree. It wouldn’t be long before a child of pure white skin would spawn from said tree, the boy bearing remarkable resemblance to his father. The two would later take to naming their offspring Eurydice, after an ancestor of his mother, Morea.

There isn’t much to be said about his childhood. They mostly live in isolation within the confines of their forest, his father often leaving for long stretches of time, the two never knowing whether or not he’d return. Though, for Morea, it never really concerned her for the Fey were fickle creatures, and despite his gruesome appearance, he was not one to stay in one place for too long. It was safe to assume that Eurydice spent the majority of his infancy in the care of his mother who taught him the ways of the dryad. As one might have guessed, a dryad life is uneventful, the group spending most of their lives attuning themselves with the nature around them. There were times where other fey creatures such as fairies, pixies, and satyr would roam about their forest to which they were often treated as neighbors and respected guests of the forest. Other than that, Eurydice spent most of his days in monotony along with his mother who, after a few years, would leave her child to his own devices.

It wasn’t until later after his father returned from his 10 year escapade that Eurydice would break away from the repetition that his forest dwelling offered him. More than an adventurer, Inky was a storyteller. Though fairies mostly kept themselves in the Feywilds, Inky spent his time exploring the outer realms. The boredom of living in the forest along with the ostracization he faced from other fairy folk brought him to seek a life outside. Inky would return home to tell stories of towering buildings, horses made solely of wood, and mechanisms that he took more than a few words to describe. To Morea, a woman who lived for nearly 7 centuries and happy with her humble life, these stories proved nothing but a time waster. But, for an impressional sampling like Eurydice, these stories were gateways to the unknown. Mystical beings and lands he hadn’t known existed sparked an adventurous side he didn’t know he had. Actually, it was thanks to his fanciful story telling that Oscar, at the ripe age of 30, would begin his journey outside of his home forest and into the material plane.

Around this time, his physical appearance began shifting rapidly, his mother's influence beginning to reveal itself as he grew a massive hulking body, growing far taller than Inky or any other fairy of his kind. Due to this, he became unable to fly, his wings too small to carry him more than a few centimeters off the ground. So, he would start his journey on foot, having to traverse unknown lands without the ability of flight as his father did. It wouldn’t take long before he encountered a different race, the first being pointed eared creatures that had an air of familiarity to them. They gave an elegant aura that reminded him of the more ancient dryads, but lacked the imposing pressure that usually accompanied them. Intrigued, he went to greet them, a decision he’d later come to regret for he ended up frightening the pointy eared being just before getting assailed by sharpened rocks attached to thin branches. It was a rather unpleasant meeting for both parties.

Eurydice continued his venture until he met another creature, shorter and less elegant than the former. They also were a lot hairier in comparison. Trying a different approach, he attempted to greet them from afar, which worked as well as his first attempt with the pointy eared people. The only difference was they hurled larger sharpened rocks attached to even thicker branches at him. A memory he soon wished to forget. This continued to happen to him with every new group he met, something about him causing those to naturally fear his presence. Unlike the story his father told him, the material plane was extremely cruel and unforgiving. Wherever he went he was attacked and brutalized. It was exhausting to say the least.

After a few years, he’d come across a small child that he’d come to know as human. Terrified of being attacked again, he opted to avoid confrontation all together. However, something about the child was off. It was alone, whimpering in pain as it wandered covered in bruises and mud. His concern accompanied by the lack of any other human urged him to confront the child, though before making himself known he’d learn to hide his appearance using a cloak as to not to scare them. Upon doing so, he made his presence known and eased the child who balled even harder before calming down. Providing medical attention by using the surrounding herbs, he quickly went about patching their wounds. Once finished he was preparing to leave, but the kid clung to him and so without any other ideas, he was forced to escort them to a nearby human settlement. As they traveled, he began feeling a bond with her, and though he didn’t quite understand common, he could make out bits and pieces of what she said. Olivia, was her name. It wasn’t long, but he had finally managed to find a place to leave her, and just as he began to walk away, the child cheerfully thanked him, a slightly warm feeling forming in the center of his chest. This meeting would spark his interest in medicine that would eventually lead him to become an alchemist.

Eurydice, now known as Oscar would eventually make residence in an abandoned shack that was part of an deserted manor that had been ravaged by a natural disaster. A wonderful place to keep himself away from others, and an even better place to study for the manor gave him access to a library of books that somehow survived the carnage that left the rest of the manor in disarray. He’d spend many years here, studying herbology and medicines while also brushing up on his Common that had only been bettered by further interaction with the being of this plane. Soon, he’d move away from this place and continue his experiment elsewhere, helping those injured along the way. It was then he’d be known as a traveling physician, making a small name for himself to traveling mercenaries, merchants, and adventurers all claiming to see a man of white. This is how he’d continue living until he eventually found himself caught in something much bigger than he would have ever imagined.
