Vendetta was created by Chryses, to control the monsters in the sea.
When Vendetta was made, she was suppose to be perfect, symmetrical, but she went against Chryses during the creation process. Making her look how she does, Chryses was not happy with his creation. Thus he gave her no heart and rid her to the sea. However the sea or the keeper of the sea Nausicaa did not let her perish. Instead Nausicaa gave her a heart, one that raged like the sea and gave her a power that could break even the strongest god.
In return for what Nausicaa gave her, she promised the keeper her life. Vendetta serves for the keeper and only her. She became cold hearted to mortals and those who would take from the sea. Vendetta did not take on her given roll she was created for, she is the one to protect those monsters from the one who wanted to control them.
Vendetta can however communicate with the sea, ask for guidance or help. She will always get an answer. She will always talk to Nausicaa and ask for help when she needs it and when she can't speak to her she speaks to Uma.

Vendetta is not particularly a very nice person, She knows she doesn't have to be either .
She is a witch that shouldn't be crossed. She's been a live long enough to know when someone is cutting her short. Vendetta is well known for being sadistic as hell, she finds joy in those that can't complete something they said they would. Double crossing this sea witch might result in death or depending on who you are, a smack to the back of the head.
