Corydalis was created to rule the domain of Life, and where she walks, flowers bloom. She is one of the oldest children of Asle and Nephtali, paired Lifebringers who created similar pairs in their image. Cory was paired with the aspect of Death, who she worked very closely with. The two of them fell in love, and fell fast. Corydalis, as the embodiment of Life, will never have to worry about that life ending; the same was not true of her first love. One day, the Reaper died and did not get back up. Her grief was immeasurable.

Cory's creators took pity on her. Asle, who crafted all rules that her kind had to follow, concocted a way for the Reaper to return. Death was brought back in a new body -- practically a whole new person -- but now with the expectation that they would someday die. Though Corydalis told herself she shouldn't get too close, there was no avoiding it. She fell in love with Death a second time. And, years later, she lost them a second time. The mantle of the Reaper was passed on to a new Daiten, equally as worthy, and it became a cycle everybody expected to repeat eternally. The Fall of Heaven destroyed any expectations for the future.

Corydalis was separated from her Death during the fall, but they searched for each other. Her hope did not die until she encountered Achlys: a new Daiten, unrecognizable to her, who wore the mantle of the Reaper. Her love had died, again, and this time Cory had no reason to continue breaking her own heart. She left Achlys to their own devices; they would figure out how to be a Reaper on their own, and Cory would defend herself from the same heartbreak she had been experiencing, over and over, for millennia.
