"In order to fight Derecho, Dragon Lord of Tempest, the Queen of Frost made a mystical crown that could destroy the wearer. Of course, she would not be bowed to the elemental, fury of ice, for she was cold itself."
― "The Age of Ice" penned by Lady Yue

Lilith is a fickle goddess who seems aloof at best. The night sky is her domain and the chill that descends is her weapon of choice. Behind her frost laden heart is one of gold, that shines brightly for her wife Nyla; for she numbs the pain with her the chill of the night and acts as hers protector. The Keeper of Briar inspires Lilith to thaw her iciness and interact more with mortals for they are soul mates, their love written in the stars and as pure as snow. Through her love for Nyla she has began to thaw, smiling more and learning to laugh again.

Appearance

For those lucky enough to see the Goddess she can be described as inhumanly beautiful, like that of a sculpture meticulously carved of ice. Her very appearance seems distant and otherworldly, with cold blue skin that is painted with strange white markings which glow with the same subtle radiance as the moon itself. Beautiful white hair that tumbles down into wisps of space, as snow-like as her eyes, which could only be described as two frozen orbs. Antlers made of ice itself are draped with small ornaments that depict crystal stars while a necklace of a crescent moon sits solemnly on her collarbone. A single wedding band can she seen on a long, blue finger, a silver one to match her wife's gold band.

If she wishes to convene with mortals (albeit rarely) she takes the form of seemingly an ever moving cloud of ice particles, with small, barely perceived, glowing white eyes. In reality it is of an ice serpent, mostly invisible to the naked eye. Other beings that she instead sends in her place were Ice golems, and Ice archons. Most Ice trolls and even frost giants fear her and as such are placated under her watchful gaze. There are rumors that she even has an army of white dragons at her disposal, but whether the rumors are true or not is up for debate. Of course the rumor lends credence to the lesser known and favored form of Lilith, a small Ice Drake.

Personality

There are stories of Lilith, before she and Nyla wed, where she was even more distant than the horizon of a night sky. The realm of gods was supreme and mortals were non-existent. There are stories of when the Gods were young and how their influence shaped the world of Deluge, yet Lilith's eyes were not drawn to the ground below, but the stars above. They held secrets that not even the other gods known, and when she discovered a deep, enigmatic truth she hid herself further away, looking at the stars for more. With her need for control shaken by the endless expanse of stars Lilith continued to search, until she found a star of her own Nyla. Lilith's very own star melted away some of her icy exterior and endless grasp for meaning. For once in her immortal life, she smiled.

Activities

The moon is her domain, the eyes in which she scours the mortal world if she has to the and the harbinger of the path to the stars. Her moon glows with esoteric and arcane light, giving magic linked to the heavenly realm of stars itself rather than from Mephitis. Acting as a guide to those who wished for magic beyond their very planet she also extends her grace to the lost and weary. Since the moon controls the tides, she works to calm the viscous fury of the Dragon God Lord of Tempest, Derecho; guiding ships from his wrath and into safer waters.

The creator of Lycanthropy through the arcane magic of the moon she controls their powers and acts as a patron to good Lycanthropes, though sometimes did answer the call of evil lycanthropes as she felt somewhat responsible for them, though would often task adventurers in taking them down should one go to far. Sometimes (if rarely) she would task adventurers or her clergy to unearth hidden magics and in return she would offer them great boons. Her dealings in the mortal realm are rare in general as she spends most of her energy divining the secrets of the stars and cosmos.

History

One of the first Gods to rise in the Cosmic Calendar Lilith found herself captivated by the stars above her and the cold embrace of frost. Instead of trying to find other gods or explore the new world she was content to meditate beneath the ethereal flow of the moon. Like herself, time and space were still fairly new, and so ages could have passed before Lilith moved. As still as a statue she waited, until the moon suddenly changed. All the light drained from the celestial object, until it was a sphere of depthless void, ringed by a burning halo of light. It was then, under an eclipse, she found Nyla. The two Goddesses quickly became attached, Nyla's pure radiance thawing her icy disposition. Together they began stretching their wings and explore the realm, Nyla bringing the lively brightness of summer and Lilith the serene beauty of winter. As they met more Gods the world began to reflect their power, slowly becoming what it is today.

War of Storms

The God of Water known as Lyrae considered Lilith a friend, a opinion the Queen of Stars and Frost also shared considering their affinities for water and frost, and so when the Lord of Tempest, Derecho announced his desire to wed Lyrae, Lilith came to his defense since Lyrae did not wish to join Derecho in union. The dragon god (known for his temper) lashed out in a destructive rampage, kidnapping Lyrae, and threatening Lilith's position as Queen of Frost, calling himself the God of all elements, including water and ice. His anger shook the very realm, plunging it into chaos. While Lilith's wife Nyla tried her best to protect the realm from Derecho's fury, Lilith knew she had to stop the dragon and rescue the God of Water.

Lilith challenged the Derecho and for 13 days a fierce battle took place between the gods, both evenly matched in powers. As great pillars of ice rose to strike him down Derecho called up thunderous stakes of lighting to shatter them into pieces. World altering spells were cast, mountains formed and then and crumbled, their battle creating great storms of lighting and ice. On the 13th day Lilith revealed her trump card, The Crown of the Frost Queen. Donning the crown she used it to freeze time itself, letting her prepare a ritual that bound Derecho to the deepest part of the seas. Even with Derecho defeated and Lyrae free the sheer power of Lilith's powers caused the realm to enter an ice age that lasted 200 years.

Age of Ice

Though Derecho was defeated, the result of their battle with the amplification of Lilith's powers through the Crown of the Ice Queen drastically changed the realm. Despite Nyla keeping Deluge from total destruction the tempetarue of the plaent's surface plummeted and expansive ice sheets covered the seas. With much of her power spent Lilith could not interact with the material plane, so Nyla enlisted the help of Esprit, Goddex of Nature and Fire, and Lyrae, God of Water to help thaw and heal the world. At first, Lilith was hesistant to let Nyla fix what her frost had done, feeling responsible for the damage she had caused. She especially did not like the Goddex of Fire and Nature, given their opposite domains, but conceeded due to their lack of options. For 200 years Lilith slept with the aid of Hyphos, Goddes of Memories and Dreams, in order to regain her strength.

Relationships

Nyla

"And so Nyla bestowed upon her spouse a staff of her own making, as a sign of their union and her unwavering hope for their shared future."
― "The Union of Two Goddesses," penned by Lady Yue

Lilith's wife Nyla is by far the most important relationship she has. She is her other half, and without her Lilith would be as distant to the realm as the very moon. She would do anything for her, and is very protective of her wife, moreso after he consumed the Briar that plagued the material plane.

Lyrae

Lyrae is a good friend to her, considering their similar domains and how the water God's former personality was less gloomy after the Age of Ice, the goddess retreating from the material plane, the scars of Derecho's bane still weighing heavy on the despondent God.

Derecho

The one God who she sees as her mortal enemy is the God of Tempest Derecho; their battle rewrote the very fate of the Two's Gods, written in the stars above.

Esprit

With their duel domains Lilith at first was uneasy with Esprit, the Goddex of Flame and Nature but their distant personality reminds Lilith before she met Nyla, which helped ease them into a steady friendship, though the Goddess knows there's more to Esprit than most other Gods could truly comprehend.

Trivia

  • Although not needing an arcane focus she did have a staff gifted to her by Nyla on the eve of their wedding, a treasured object that she would never use in battle, instead keeping it safe and tightly guarded, and only brings it out to bless her most faithful clerics, called the Staff of Shining Hope.
  • In order to defeat Derecho, Lord of Tempest, Lilith created the Crown of the Frost Queen, enabling her to defeat him. However fearing the powerful relic could fall into the wrong hands she split it into pieces and scattered the remains all around the world.
  • Even though most magic is entirely dispelled upon casting it on/toward her, Lilith's one weakness is fire.
  • If she wishes to convene with mortals (albeit rarely) she takes the form of seemingly an ever moving cloud of ice particles, with small, barely perceived, glowing white eyes. In reality it is of an ice serpent, mostly invisible to the naked eye.
  • Other beings that she instead sends in her place were Ice golems, and Ice archons.
