Born to an American mother and Japanese father, Kaiya always looked more american yet spoke more Japanese.

She was always extremely clumsy as a child, but when it didn't change as she got older, only worsening, her already superstitious father believed it to be a curse of misfortune.

From that point on, she was always surrounded by as many religious items as her family could obtain, and was never allowed outside for reasons other than school. It only helped to outcast her at school further, but she kept focused on her schooling.

Now as a teenager, she has learned to stress over her misfortune, avoiding accidents and the likes. She has became well known in her neighborhood, extending to the city, for her bad luck. With no friends, she had plenty of time to maintain good grades, and that plus her reputation, landed her an entry to Hope's Peak Academy.
