Shalah

A Snake Demoness who roams this world. Summoned many eras ago, Shalah is an immortal who outlived her summoner. Usually, this would send her back to a demonic realm, but she was properly bound to this world after her summoning, and cannot return. This is because to permanently be bound to this realm, all her ties had to be severed from the realm she originally hails from, where most demons retain these ties in a typical summoning scenario, she lost hers, thus will live in this world until she dies. Shalah does not resent her predicament, the world is a good place. She however does get lonely, it's not like she can just wander into the city of Irhynam. She's a very long snake demon, after all. While more human-esque demons can come and go into society, the bigger, more frightening ones don't stand as good of a chance of being allowed more than a short visit.

Shalah however has found a good balance. She lives near enough to Irhynam that she can meet those passing through, but far enough that Irhynam's forces do not feel she's a danger. While many visitors to her area are scared off, some listen and understand she means no harm. She helps people with directions, and sometimes even supplies should she have any. Shalah hunts in the wilderness near her home, and feeds much like a snake does. She targets large creatures, and only needs to feed a dozen times a year on average. Her demonic origins also gift her a heightened sense of magic. While most of her magics are dark, she can sense other magic being casted, and has an idea of what is going on at all times in her area when it comes to magic. It may be rarer in the cities to have magic being used out of control, but it happens elsewhere. Beasts with innate magic ability usually mean no harm, but at times can be a threat. She'll deal with those beasts herself.

There are legends that Shalah is an evil spirit, and not to visit her domain on Halloween in particular. She's fighting against these rumors though, being a nice host, and making sure the creatures of the night in the wilderness are kept from common ground that people tread in search of her. She has fun with this, and will never directly reveal herself, only giving glimpses of her tail as she dashes through the tree line. She hopes as more people know she won't eat them, that her domain is a safe place to really get to be one with nature, something many of Irhynam's denizens don't really get to experience much. She has lately taken to providing decorations about the trees during Halloween.

Shalah was not always such a relaxed demon, her summoner was the one who got her into shape, the summoner was a powerful young woman who wanted a friend to keep her company around 400 years ago. Unfortunately for the young summoner, illnesses were very deadly, and some would simply take a life without any unique symptoms. The Summoner lost her life, which while deeply saddening to Shalah, was also what really got her to understand their wish, and become a gentle soul, and Shalah lives her peaceful life for the both of them. There's times she'll simply nap on the deck of the home they shared, as she would do that many ages ago while the young summoner relaxed.

From one of the demonic realms, Shalah's skin, hair and eyes are all without color, simply varying shades of grey. It's not quite known why her people are like this, as their demonic realm has color, but it helps them stand out. Being face to face with her has been described as an experience, due to how she looks right out of a black and white photograph. She doesn't seek any sort of manner to obtain color in her, she takes pride in her appearance as it is a sign of where she came from. This does make hunting during lighter hours tougher, as Shalah will stand out even against rocks. Night time is her time, while it's still possible to see her quite easily, many animals do not possess the same vision and either have a tough time, or are left wide open at night, prime for a quick, painless kill.
