Karmyn Revlis

Age 0 to 5: Karmyn was born in a small town, where he lived in a mansion with his parents. Very soon, he gets captivated by magic, mostly as he grew in the middle of spells that punctuated life in his household. Karmyn also spent a lot of time at his grandfather’s side, who would frequently read him spell books and shared his childhood memories with him. 
Since he had learned basic magic by himself, his parents made the decision to send him to the Hexide School of Magic and Demonics, to give him the opportunity to master his skills, under the supervision of teachers. There he met Lurleen, a student in potions two years his senior. The following year, he met Orphély, a child about his age who just joined Hexside.
When Karmyn had to choose a course, he decided to follow the Illusions track. All pathways seemed boring to him, mixing spells together appeared much more fun in his childish eyes. He thought that at least illusions may be useful to him.

Age 5 to 10: Karmyn improved his magic skills at a swift pace and was the pride of his father, who could already see his son promised to a brilliant future in the Emperor’s Coven, something he had dreamt of achieving in his past.
Often, after classes, Karmyn and Lurleen went to Bonesborough’s library. He could spend hours reading history books about the Island’s important historical events. Already then he spotted some discrepancies between what was laid down in these books and what his grandfather would tell him. This depiction of Belos as the Emperor who saved all witches from wild magic seemed odd to him.
Karmyn would take shelter in the practice of magic more and more often, away from the pressure of his father’s expectations. He would start drifting away from conventional magic and revel in his spell combination experiments, carefully documenting the results.

Age 10 to 15: As Karmyn was strolling through the forest with Orphély, looking for seedlings for Lurneen, an odd sound drew his attention. It seemed like only he could hear it, the sound guided him up to a fairy ring at the centre of which a light was concealed under the leaves. He was almost mesmerised. The light’s source was a red gem, hand carved by a sorcerer. When Karmyn grabbed the jewel, it shined with a new glow, as if it was resonating with his very own magic.
It was after this discovery that Karmyn got even more involved in magic. It was an art of endless possibilities, gifted by the Titan. He started questioning the legitimacy of the Coven system as well as the Emperor. He started going around to ask questions to antiquarians to try and find books telling the actual story of the Savage Ages. He didn’t know who to believe anymore and his curiosity greatly worried his teachers. He was a brilliant student, but had dangerous ideas that had to be shut down.
Karmyn was growing, and continued to form his own ideas. He was trying to make himself heard in class, which earned him a trip to Principal Bump’s office. His father was eventually summoned to talk about Karmyn’s case. He knew that he had let his father down, but this didn’t necessarily sadden him, he actually felt freer, not hampered by his father’s expectations. Karmyn simply wanted to work on his own spells. From now on, his relation with his father quickly deteriorated, they nearly wouldn’t see eachother anymore. Karmyn was focused on creating new spells, starting with altering some he already mastered. Some tests might have ended in disasters, but that didn’t get his hopes down. He maintained his good grades, though he didn’t really understand why. 

Today: Karmyn is continuing his research endeavours, he even wishes to become a researcher some day. The origins of magic and its operation fascinated him and he would love to dedicate his future to it. The idea of becoming a teacher was also pleasing for him, even if his own were far from eager about the idea. His friends follow him as much as they can and incite him to do what he wants before all. But the concern of not knowing what his future might be under the rule of Emperor Belos weighs on him more with each passing day.
