Born in Norway, but raised in Germany. Magdala was a rambunctious child and probably made her human father go grey early. She was constantly exploring, climbing things, falling off of those things, jumping into things that shouldn't be jumped into, so on and so forth. Magdala was always out to find the next big adventure. When she was a preteen, she met her first jietal, a race of humanoid aliens seeking new worlds and lifeforms to document and understand. Earth didn't have the technology to go into space, not like the jietal did, but from that moment on it was all Magdala could think about.

She studied astronomy tirelessly as a teenager, regardless of how nervous it made her parents. But as her stocking pattern grew in, revealing a cluster of twinkling metallic stars, she only grew more determined. Her father was...dismayed. He'd hoped dainty stockings were completely genetic and she'd end up with stockings like her mother's, more down to earth and gentle. Magdala wasn't her mother, however. And besides, she was actually good at astronomy. She'd never been so focused on anything before. As a younger child she'd been bored with school and her grades suffered.

Her parents decided to just go with it. They talked to the jietal visitors and got Magdala a place in one of their flight schools. She spent her high school years there, in space, training alongside members of the jietal fleet. By the time she graduated (with honors, natch) she had a job offer on a research transport. In two years' time, her captain retired and left her old ship to Magdala to help her start her own crew.

Magdala bought a smaller, faster ship and registered it under the name "Astraea." She took her best crewmates from the old ship and started her career as a freelance transporter. They went anywhere they pleased, messed with whoever they pleased, and got shot at by...well, they usually didn't pick those people.

Her love life was about as wild as she was. She had casual flings on nearly every planet she touched down on. This was all well and good until about a month after leaving one of those planets Magdala remembered that she was probably, at some point, supposed to menstruate. Magdala dealt with this bump (lol) in stride. It took several more months before the baby developed enough to determine what sort of alien the father was, so by the time Magdala showed up on his doorstep she was VERY pregnant.

His name was Keshal and he wasn't a fan of this. Neither were his parents. So much so that they kicked their son out and disowned him for "sullying" himself with such an "unholy abomination" (not a fan of dainties, those two). Feeling guilty, Magdala took him in--she had an extra bunk on her ship anyway--and from then on he was sort of...hers? They never married as the tumoph--Keshal's race--generally frowned on interspecies marriage, but they've been together ever since. They named their daughter Freyja after Magdala's grandmother. Because fuck the tumoph side of the family honestly.

For the first four years, they raised Freyja on Magdala's ship. Their baby learned to fly in zero G before she could crawl and was rocked to sleep beneath an ever changing canopy of stars. But it couldn't go on forever. Magdala wanted to go into deep space and run from smugglers and find new horizons. That wasn't a great idea with a kid. Keshal also kind of wanted to go home. His parents were assholes, but Namaz was still his home planet.

They bought a home there together in a compound that was more open-minded than the one where Keshal's parents lived. Freyja stayed with him half the time and Magdala the other half, with some overlap in between. Magdala could go wherever she wanted when her daughter was planetside--but one too many close calls settled her restless spirit a bit. She wanted Freyja to have a mom growing up. Even after this her routes were never entirely safe and she'd already made more than a few enemies, but she became more cautious and less abrasive with strangers.

Magdala was over the moon when Freyja decided to go to a jietal flight school and follow in her footsteps. She saved up and bought her daughter and her co-pilot, Leandros, a beautiful little ship for their graduation. She's never been more proud.

After a few years, Magdala retired on Namaz with Keshal. She still has her ship and still takes the odd job or two. Sometimes she'll drag Keshal out to explore with her, visit her parents, visit old crewmates, or track down Freyja and Leandros to parent in their general direction.

• 100% never planned to have kids. Keeping Freyja was a choice that shocked everyone.
• Has an open relationship with Keshal. No one tell their daughter.
• Freyja's copilot, Leandros, has no parents, so now Magdala and Keshal are his parents. Leandros does not get a say in this.
• Everyone who has no parents or stupid parents belongs to Magdala. She is your mother now. CLEAN YOUR ROOM.
• Has known about her daughter's Sinstagram for years. Is cool with it. No one tell Keshal.
• She knows where Leandros actually came from. She's the one who found him.
