his backstory is that he was both his parents' favorite, because he's an angel that doesn't talk back and is just a generally a very gorgeous and a polite kid. so, his other older siblings are super jealous of him, because he gets all the attention and they don't look as good as him, so they all plotted against him and murdered their mother and framed joseph. because joseph is totally outnumbered of the blames, and he has no one to blame (because he doesn't know who did it), the father was torn and threatened to kill joseph, so he, in fear, ran away from his own home and lives with the trauma but still tries to look at the bright side of all things. his accessory was a gift from his late mother, and he brings it everywhere to remind himself that he's not alone. he never takes it off, because he pretty much considers the choker to be a lucky charm.

personality is that he's always cheerful and happy, literally a sunshine boy
