Growing up on the poor side of the kingdom, Saffron learned from a young age how to patch someone up. This was mainly because his next door neighbour kept getting into fights and they eventually became friends. To prevent Odessa from getting hurt further, Saffron started to break up her fights.
Being friends with the reckless kid in the neighborhood, Saffron learned to swordfight with sticks, though he was always keeping it civil when their matches got a bit tense. Ironically, due to this, when he tried out for the Knights of Elvenspire, he got in. Though, Odessa was not as enthusiastic about his news, so he reasoned with her about some of the good things that could come from such an opportunity.
Being head of his class, he was hand picked to be the prince's personal guard. His position also led to his family moving up into middle class which was good for his mom, but bad for his best friend. On nights when he has free time, he hangs out with Odessa and teaches her how to properly swordfight, secretly hoping she'd join the knights too.
