The Small Kind Swine

Gaile Emerson will do his best to please you and complete any task you may wish of him, but as soon as the busywork runs out you might notice him staring out in the distance, a strange glint in his eyes. Just take care not to disturb.

Currently employed as an apprentice alchemist [or apothecary? something along those lines, consult with other members], though his heart's not in it.

Personality

Gaile is a sweet pig, if a bit quiet and hungry for approval. He struggles with making his own decisions and feels most comfortable when acting under the authority of another towards a clear goal, but he's good at heart.

When under the pelt's influence his sweetness is traded for either an overwhelming lust for life or a brooding intensity. He turns snappy and aggressive in his anxiety when compelled by the wolf pelt to make choices that run contrary to his kind nature.

History

Gaile Emerson, son of Sir Emery.

Born into the Sicklefang clan to a half Sicklefang father and an unknown mother, Gaile never felt quite at home within his clan. His father spent all of his youth abroad on Order hunts and only settled back down with the Sicklefangs to raise his son, bringing with him a disregard for their culture.

Sir Emery made for an emotionally distant father with no tolerance for lazyness, weakness or anything he deemed unworthy of his blood. However, despite the neglect and sometimes outright abuse Gaile looked up to him and his accomplishments. His father adorned both himself and their home with the trophies he had gathered, some of them truly marvelous; [trophies] and of course, the crowning glory, Sir Emery's first kill.
A grand wolf pelt so well preserved it seemed not hours slain. Rarely worn by the knight and, much like every other artifact in their home, forbidden for young Gaile to touch.

Gaile largely spent his childhood relentlessly and to no avail seeking his father's approval. Every time he seemingly made progress the goalposts were moved, but with no other parental figure to guide him this only fed his desperation. And so, when Sir Emery gave him the wolf pelt and said it was his, Gaile for the first time in years dared to hope that he had lived up to his father's expectations. Shortly afterwards he awakened as a mage, which seemed to please his father greatly. Gaile spent the following week in ecstasy, confidence through the roof. But it all came crashing down on him when he one day awoke to an empty home. Sir Emery never left a note or trace.

Ever since the harrowing disappearance of his father Gaile has been left in disarray. He's torn between hatred, guilt, confusion, desperation and adoration. A volatile concoction of emotions for which the wolf pelt has come to serve as a grounding anchor; a promise of fatherly love and trust.
And so, when he begun to hear whispers, in the voice of his father, from it, he clung ever tighter instead of scrambling away. Slowly, the pelt has been teaching him of his new magic, the world and his own incurable inadequacy. Gaile spends increasingly long stretches of time in quiet seclusion, where the whispers can be heard the clearest, but a worry is creeping at the back of his mind.
What is the voice, truly? And what does it want?

Gaile possesses the potential to create and manipulate gusts of wind, as channelled through extraordinary inflatable sacs attached to his nasal cavity. When he casts, the pelt seems to awaken, hackles raised and eyes glowing with a disconcerting green light.

At the moment he's only able to blow a gust of wind that is strong enough to knock down more haphazard structures, as well as people of frail constitution or the unprepared.

Costs

  • Magic has a constant adverse emotional effect on the caster, whether it is in use or not: It's always trying to make Gaile submit to its will, but the pelt's influence is the greatest when he casts, allowing it to chip away at his psyche with greater intensity.
