Safe Harbor is a name given for what they embody in the world: a guardian between humankind and the things that go bump in the night, an almost magically soothing presence, strong arms for firms hugs, one of those faces that's just easy to talk to. Even their choice in weapon reflects their values. Harbor was chosen quite young by the moon goddess to become one of her elite guardians. Although proud of their duty and deadly efficient at it, Harbor has realized as they aged the level of corruption within the ranks of the guardians. They're still steadfast in their desire to protect and resigned to the gruesome end that no doubt awaits them, resolved to continue fighting threats on their own terms. However, Safe Harbor has begun befriending some of the more peaceful monsters they come across, further questioning the things they were taught. Deep inside, they're even beginning to doubt the existence of the goddess. The crescent magically etched into their forehead prevents them from abandoning the guardian order entirely, but don't worry, as long as you're not some loser who runs around hurting folks for the lolz, you couldn't be in safer hands.
Harbor has such a calm demeanor that it's almost infectious to those around them... though it's not unreasonable to think this might be an actual magical talent of theirs, along with their ability to sense the intentions of monsters. They are stronger and more resilient than a regular human- the moon goddess didn't want to send her champions straight into certain death, and so bestowed blessings upon her guardians. Even Harbor isn’t sure of the full extent of these abilities. Although their subtlety with vocal and facial expression can make them seem intimidating (if the giant muscles and weapon don't already do that), their kindness is undeniable, as is the remorse for any monsters they may have undeservingly killed before they knew better. Safe Harbor has terrible insomnia as well, they basically live on coffee.
Unbeknownst to Harbor is that young initiates to the guardian order are forcibly injected with the blood of the very monsters they are raised to kill, if they even survive the process. This is the true source of their 'blessings' and ability to read monsters, though the ritual is later forgotten. Harbor's inhibited sense of fear is also a result of the order poking around in their head.

Still kind of a wip in design and story, but I'm excited about them. Does this shield design make sense? I don't know, not my problem. The blades on the bottom are for slicing, and the groove in the middle is for beheading.
