Her name means "orange tree" in Hawaiian. She's based off of the song Orange Juice by Melanie Martinez & her design is asymmetrical, so it includes both sides.

Alani struggles with bulimia as well as her emotions, so it comes out in the form of her goop. No matter what she eats, it comes out as goop. When she gets overwhelmed with sadness or anger, her goop spills everywhere. When her emotions are normal, her goop still remains but it doesn't create large puddles.

She's also a big perfectionist, so she puts that into making dolls. Since she can't fit her own idea of perfection on herself, Alani makes her dolls that way. On the other hand, she also repairs dolls and puts them back together again.
