Azrael is a fallen angel who was cursed by god and cast out of Paradise.

For as long as time had ever existed, angels were told they could not feel any emotion other than joy.

Azrael was a guardian angel of a specific human. During his time around the human, his curiosity got the better of him when it came to emotions. He did something an angel should have never done, and learned how to love.

The god of Paradise knew right away, and in turn banished Azrael and cursed him as a beast that must feed off of humans to live. 

Azrael could not live with such a punishment, and continued life on earth pretending he was still a normal angel. Just.. one that was quite sad and always ended up alone.
