Profile
Kalyx Lynaldin
Grand Master, Gilded Tyrant"Insert quote."
Iris's father and head of the family company - his ego is nearly as monumental as the company's headquarters. Divorced and bitter about it, he's turned from spending his time and energy on his family to their company. Cold hearted and stern, he now sees Iris as nothing more an heir, a part of his legacy.
In other verses, he's ruler of their realm. Doesn't change how controlling and demanding he is.
Personality
Serious and severe, in his mind, few are greater than him. He may not be the most magically gifted, nor the fastest on the draw, but when it comes to sheer force of will, he's unstoppable. With the amount of pride and self-confidence he has, he is rarely nervous, and if he is, he never shows it. He doesn’t demand people listen to him, he just expects them to.
Despite how grim and impersonal he is now, he once was willing to drop everything for love - to be disowned for marrying his darling Mari. When their marriage went belly up, he vengefully denied her custody of their kids, cut off all contact between them, and that was that.
He can play nice for the media, but those who know him largely conclude that he doesn't have much of a heart anymore, with Tori as the main dissenting voice. Despite how emotionally constipated he is, there's a glimmer of something he's shoved down and locked away inside himself. Problem is, he's lost the key.
Talk about youth - squeeze in upbringing and meeting Tori.
About Tori - There's a lot to talk about him here I suppose.
Meeting Mari and their marriage.
II.Kids
Marriage falls apart - taking over from his father and the other stressors on their relationship
III.Aftermath what he did regarding Mari, his entire situationship with Tori?
Present day - what am I counting as present day?
Regarding House LynaldinThe House Lynaldin is an ancient family, but not necessarily a household name until Kalyx took over for his ailing father. In ancient days, they were rulers of a city-state, grown wealthy through a focus on trade. Anything you wanted could be found within their ports. While they maintain ownership of much of their ancestral lands, as times changed, they turned from ruling through monarchy to ruling through money. However, their house has been slowly falling in prestige and power. With the near insolvency of their main holdings, Kalyx's father fell quite ill, spurred on by stress and despar. Kalyx, however, has completely reversed course. While their family may never be respected for his rejection and denial of the old ways, no one can deny the magnitude of wealth and power he has managed to wrest for himself.
There are rumours that the family is fae touched. Someone, somewhere in their unbroken chain of ancestors, must have pleased a king of the fae. Or displeased, it's not really clear - these are just rumours after all. Kalyx and his son, Iris, bear quite the resemblace to a certain ancient hero who was known to be both beautiful and vain. Some legends say that, when asked what he desired, his response was "that my face and name may never be forgotten!" As with many myths, the finer details were left to the bards, who are known for fanciful embellishment at times. So, who can say whether that actually happened? But if you pass through the family's hall of portraits, or, to be morbid, the mausoleum, you'll notice more than just a family resemblance through the ages, especially down the line of heirs. Notably, the company itself, as well as much of the family's wealth, is typically inherited through primogeniture. First-born takes all, aside from any bouts of magnanimity they may have. While any siblings and other relations are considered important shareholders, any real power goes to the eldest.
Other Notes
Sturdy and unyeilding. The way he sees it, the world should yield to him, and that's obvious in his body language.
Eyes to pierce your soul:
Making eye contact with him would be a mistake for most. And yet that's exactly what they're drawn to do, once they feel his gaze upon them. A few seconds of sustained eye contact is enough for him to get a passing read on what a person desires, aspires to, and dreads. Even longer, and you run the risk of allowing him to plumb the furthest depths of your mind. It's quite fortuitous for most that he has no inclination to do so.
The flesh is fluid:
His physical appearance changes in subtle manners to better reflect what his target finds attractive. He has some measure of control over this, but some changes are so automatic, even he doesn't notice.
By every measure:
He is designed to hunt mortals. Everything down to even his scent is meant to entice. Accordingly, he smells different to each person when he isn't careful. If you asked him what he thinks he smells like, he'd likely say wisteria and sandalwood.
You can take on the form of a cloud of fog to sneak up on your unsuspecting prey. You may cast the spell “Gaseous Form” with no components and without spending a spell slot. Additionally, you may cast this spell as a reaction when you are reduced to 0 hit points by non-radiant damage. You ignore the clause ending the spell upon reaching 0 hit points.
Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest.
Gaseous Form:
You transform a willing creature you touch, along with everything it's wearing and carrying, into a misty cloud for the duration. The spell ends if the creature drops to 0 hit points. An incorporeal creature isn't affected.
While in this form, the target's only method of movement is a flying speed of 10 feet. The target can enter and occupy the space of another creature. The target has resistance to nonmagical damage, and it has advantage on Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution saving throws. The target can pass through small holes, narrow openings, and even mere cracks, though it treats liquids as though they were solid surfaces. The target can't fall and remains hovering in the air even when stunned or otherwise incapacitated.
While in the form of a misty cloud, the target can't talk or manipulate objects, and any objects it was carrying or holding can't be dropped, used, or otherwise interacted with. The target can't attack or cast spells.
Hidden Weapon:
Most folks assume his cane is a fashion statement. Just another gaudy reminder of his house and proud lineage. The only folks who truly know better are Tori, perhaps a handful of scientists, on his own, very generous payroll, and a few of the dead. It's truly rare that anyone slips through his security detail, not to mention Tori himself, but any who have are long gone.
Form Switch:
When asked if he wantd a gun or a sword, he said both.
Prototype:
The magic and tech this is based on is the same that serves as a prototype for Iris's cybernetics, which can be most easily seen when compared to his tail. Has a large basis in Tori's personal brand of magic.
This javelin is a magic weapon.
When you hurl it and speak its command word, it transforms into a bolt of lightning, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 120 feet. Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The lightning bolt turns back into a javelin when it reaches the target. Make a ranged weapon attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes damage from the javelin plus 4d6 lightning damage.
The javelin's property can't be used again until the next dawn. In the meantime, the javelin can still be used as a magic weapon.
- He drinks despite the fact that he can't get drunk
- Can still eat human food in addition to blood, but needs to drink blood eventually
- Plays the harp and the flute primarily. Not bad at the cello either
- His 2nd iteration in DnD had him cursed by a hag. I kept a lot of things, but not that
