Olette was born in a distant woodland village at the base of the fairy mountain range within Arcadia. Because of their close proximity to the mountains, the violent nocturnal fairies that reside there often prey upon the village's residents as well as any other living creature unfortunate enough to be out at night. Little is known about the fairies, other than their ravenously carnivorous nature and their lack of sight. The village reguards them with awe and respect however, believing that sacrificing 2 of their children to them every year will bring them favor and a year free from violence at the hands of the fairies. They host a grand festival every year where those who are to be sacrificed are pampered and prepared for their sacred duty, while the rest of the village celebrates and parties until sunset.

Olette was one such sacrifice.  Blind from birth, Olette was a prime candidate for sacrifice, as the mountain is unforgiving and blindness is a severe disadvantage. As a young child, she was dressed in a flowing white dress and adorned with beautiful jewelry before being left at the mountains base with a young boy of the same age. As the sun set, she heard the distinct sounds of the rapid fluttering of hungry fairies followed swiftly by the cries of terror from her counterpart.

Not all went according to plan however.  Maybe it was because she couldn't see their translucent blue skin or the many rows of terrifyingly sharp teeth, but she wasn't afraid when they approached. The fairies for whatever reason didn't consume the girl like they did with the screaming child and all the other terrified children before her. They simply landed on her, chattering in their strange way to eachother. Amazed and enthralled, Olette remained with them; retreating to their mountain caves with them for daylight and venturing out with them at night.

In time, she learned from them how to navigate the mountains without sight and came to think of them as her dear friends. Despite their unwillingness to consume her, the fairies have extremely sharp appendages and often leave scratches and scars across their favorite places to perch on Olette. Many of them catch rides in her hair, possibly to avoid this.

Olette has lived amongst the fairies for many years now and has lost most of her memory of civilized life within the village. Those who spot her claim she's mad, speaking in soft clicks to man eating monsters all night long; and Shes become a ghost story amongst the natives. Most believe that she's not even real, simply a Fairytale to scare children away from straying. They would be wrong, however, her dear friends ensure that nothing alive can get close enough to harm her so in a way, the story does protect those who believe enough to avoid her.
