Bastien, codenamed 'Spiral', lived in Iberia his whole life before leaving to join Rhodes Island with Astraea. We were skeptical of his abilities when he first arrived, but after seeing his exam results and confirming them on the battlefield, we can be confident in his skill.
He has an inexplicable, unrelenting need to be helpful, and frankly it gets annoying at times. We can’t be sure whether this is related to personal feelings of inferiority, a desire to make friends, or something different altogether. At the very least, he isn’t useless, and for as pushy as he can be, he gets things done.
Archive File 2
Spiral actually had prior connections to Rhodes Island before leaving Iberia, mainly through Contingency Contract. While he was not overly familiar with us, he knew enough by association, and mutual partnership through an outside organization. He isn’t a Catastrophe Messenger and probably never will be, but his general desire to be helpful sure led him in that direction.
If not for that outside work, there’s a great chance he wouldn’t be a part of Rhodes Island today. Both because of the skills he gained while working with them, and because his reasons for joining Rhodes Island were less than ideal. One generally can’t become an operator on a favor, so if that were all he had to go on he would be out of luck.
That said, if favors were money the man would be rich. He is exceedingly useful at solving mundane issues that other operators face, from missing items to petty disputes. Spiral can act as a detective, a mediator, and more, as long as you ask him nicely. Actually, even if you ask rudely, he’ll be willing to help.
Archive File 3
Spiral’s closest friend is another operator in Rhodes Island, codenamed Astraea. Though he talks a lot about the bond the two of them share, he rarely goes into detail about how they became friends, or why they became friends, or anything of the sort. We have confirmed from both of them that they met in Iberia and lived together for a period of time, although their times and dates don’t exactly correlate. There is no evident reason why either of them would need to lie about something so simple, so more investigations are suggested.
Other operators have generally positive opinions of him; Spiral makes a visible effort to get along with everyone, even if not everyone can tolerate his personality. Strangely enough, the one who had the most negative things to say about him was actually Astraea. Perhaps that comes from having to live alone with him for so long. Although, these negative things were all rather nitpicky: Astraea complained about Spiral’s fashion sense, the way he talks, his music tastes, all fairly minor details about Spiral that don’t concern Astraea in the slightest. When Spiral was asked about this, he laughed and proceeded to talk about his friendship again. What a strange pair…
He has a particular interest in his fellow Iberian operators, which is understandable. He doesn’t seem to care whether they’re Liberi or Aegir, as long as they share a home country he is eager to connect.
[Addendum]
“Spiral’s a good guy, but he can be so damn annoying sometimes. The way he wears his coat offends my eyes, and he has the audacity to ask me for food while wearing his clothes in such an atrocious way. I’m glad he likes my cooking though. I will warn you. If you become his friend, there’s no going back. So be careful.”

Promotion Record
Debt is a powerful weapon. While Spiral does not ask for anything in return, the weight of all the help he has offered can be crushing to some, leading to a strong loyalty he wouldn’t otherwise have been given. For all that he may lack, his skill in making and keeping connections could prove vital to Rhodes Island. In certain instances. There is nothing he can do if his charity is not returned.
And if that doesn’t work out, he can always fight it out. Make sure to remind him not to hold back.
